Professor OF Practice

This is a faculty position responsible to the Chairman of the Department of Neuro Oncology, who reports to the Head of the Division of Cancer Medicine. Leads the Neuropsychology section of Neuro Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Provides clinical expertise in neuropsychology supervision of psychometricians, mentoring of junior faculty, and clinical research. Participates in the teaching of the neuro oncology fellows, neurology residents and medical students in the specialty of neurology/neuro oncology. Participates in the development and conduct of clinical trials and research related to the neurological complications of cancer. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Serve on institutional and hospital committees as requested by attending appropriate meetings, which may include walking to meeting sites. Listen to deliberations and provide verbal feedback as necessary. Visually review all documents pertaining to committee functions. Provide a balanced and integrated educational experience in neuropsychology for residents, medical students and fellows. After comprehensive review and analysis, develop, implement, provide and evaluate the written learning materials for the specific curriculum in neuropsychology. Develop and implement specific continuing education programs pertaining to neuropsychology. Attend and participate in department/division teaching and continuing education conferences, which require verbal interaction with colleagues and walking to meeting locations throughout the hospital and campus. Actively engage in clinical research and scholarly activity to enhance the academic environment of the department. Develop programs of clinical research and scholarly activities in keeping with the goals of the department. Have the ability to synthesize a myriad of information pertaining to the area of research. May necessitate (orally or in writing) instructing research support personnel in protocol implementation. Seek appropriate funding mechanisms to support clinical research. May require completion of grant application forms through oral dictation or use of a computer and keyboard. Also will require budget development and analysis. Represent the Department and/or section in local, regional, state and national matters pertaining to the field. Will require traveling to sites outside of the Houston area and, upon return, disseminating the information obtained or learned by sharing with department colleagues verbally or in writing. Practice neuropsychology in an exemplary manner. Develop and maintain a neuropsychology practice for patients referred to the MD Anderson Cancer Center. Provide provider staffing for the outpatient clinic and the inpatient service. Visually review for proper ICD-9 and CPT coding and approve all charge documents within 5 working days. Complete patient documentation for medical records with time frames provided by the institution. Will require dictating in a clear and concise manner and visual review of documents. Correspond as appropriate in writing or in telephone conversations with referring physicians regarding patient care and treatment. Keep abreast of current approaches in the management of patients through attendance at continuing education conferences in the specialty. This will require listening to and assimilating information from the conference. Require appropriate consultations for neuropsychology patients by phone conversations or in writing to other physicians. Strive to be a role model as a practitioner for faculty, fellows, residents and students rotating on the service. Provide peer review for assessing the clinical practice of faculty within the department. Must be able to work within a context of very intense interpersonal relationships including other physicians, patients and subordinates.
