Survey Party Chief

WSP is currently searching for an experienced Survey Party Chief to join our Land Surveying and Geospatial Team in Valhalla, NY. This role will support various Northeast surveying and geomatic projects. Responsibilities Full‑time position performing survey field work in an experienced leading role either working independently or with and mentoring Jr Party Chiefs and Instrument Operators. Interact with office staff and the management team on a daily basis. Work on a wide variety of survey projects in different sectors such as commercial, transportation, environmental, industrial, institutional, and energy projects. Work on project sites within the Northeast region, with occasional travel outside the area. Sites may be in rural or urban environments; majority of work outdoors. Utilize a variety of survey instruments and equipment to obtain measurements and perform field surveys. Prepare notes and sketches clearly. Download survey field data each day and provide reports/summaries for field work when needed. Interact with clients and the public, acting as principal contact in the field, representing WSP positively and professionally. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds and resources and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct. Other duties as required by business needs. Required Qualifications High School diploma or GED required; higher education in land surveying or related field preferred. 5+ years of experience in land surveying and geospatial services or related field. Advanced knowledge of survey equipment, practices, and procedures. Willingness to mentor Jr Party Chiefs and Instrument Operators while continuing to learn. Valid state driver’s license and successful completion of WSP’s Motor Vehicle and Background screening. Effective interpersonal and communication skills, detail oriented and organized. Ability to work independently with supervision or as part of a team to complete field tasks. Flexible schedule to meet project needs beyond typical work hours/weeks. Physical ability to walk long distances and carry equipment up to 50 pounds. Track record of upholding workplace safety and willingness to abide by WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol and harassment policies. Preferred Qualifications Associate or equivalent experience in closely related discipline. OSHA 10 or other safety training certifications. Knowledge of AutoCAD, Leica Infinity or other drafting/data processing programs. Knowledge of Leica survey equipment. FAA Part 107 remote pilot certificate. Experience with NJDOT projects. Experience in various survey work types: boundary & topographic location surveys, utility surveys, right‑of‑way surveys, construction stakeout & monitoring, 3D laser scanning, etc. Benefits WSP provides a comprehensive suite of benefits focused on providing health and financial stability throughout the employee’s career. Compensation Expected Salary (all locations): $69,700 – $88,000 WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation based on circumstances not related to a protected status.
