Health Information Management Technician

Job Description

Identifies medical record deficiencies and processes accordingly. Assists physicians with medical records projects, as needed.

Job Responsibility

• Conducts a daily record review and identifies documentation deficiencies.
• Utilizes computer system to enter and record all deficiencies.
• Generates deficiency report and attaches to corresponding medical record.
• Interfiles miscellaneous documents in appropriate record and distributes remaining reports, as required.
• Checks ticklers for operative reports and discharge summaries not yet placed in the medical record.
• Reviews incomplete charts to determine which record deficiencies have been corrected.
• Updates records in computer system.
• Assists Physicians and maintains physician attendance log, documenting work completed.
• Refers questions about the status of dictated reports to the transcription office.

Job Qualification

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 1-3 years of relevant experience, required.
