Position Overview We are seeking a Finance Manager to build and own core financial operations and processes as Alden Scientific scales across two continents. This role is equal parts finance expertise and entrepreneurial problem-solving: you'll be establishing expense and vendor management approval processes, managing cross-border intercompany transfers and reconciliation between our US entity and our Dortmund, Germany subsidiary, and reconciling accounting practices across US GAAP and German/European standards. You should have led a similar initiative before — either at an early-stage company or as a new function inside a more established one — and be comfortable figuring out what's needed and building it, rather than working from an existing playbook. Curiosity about applying AI tools to finance, project management, and expense tracking is a plus. The right candidate also has the opportunity to lead and manage the build-out of a new end-to-end, frictionless contracting and ERP system late 2026 / early 2027. Key Responsibilities Expense & Vendor Management: Design, implement, and own expense and vendor management approval processes and controls appropriate for a fast-growing, multi-entity organization. Cross-Border Finance Operations: Manage intercompany transfers, transfer pricing considerations, and reconciliation between Alden Scientific's US operations and its Dortmund, Germany subsidiary. US/European Accounting Reconciliation: Reconcile accounting treatment and reporting between US GAAP and German/European accounting standards, working with local advisors and auditors as needed. Process Building: Stand up new financial processes, controls, and documentation where none currently exist, prioritizing what matters most as the company scales. AI-Enabled Finance: Evaluate and adopt AI tools to improve project management workflows and customer/vendor expense tracking, building internal comfort with these tools over time. ERP Build-Out: For the right candidate, lead the selection and implementation of a new ERP system to support the company's US and European operations as it scales. Cross-Functional Partnership: Work closely with leadership, the Dortmund team, and outside accountants/auditors to keep financial operations accurate, compliant, and audit-ready across both entities. Qualifications Track Record of Building: Experience leading a new finance initiative or function, either at an early-stage company or as a new build within a more established one — comfortable creating processes from scratch. Process Design Experience: Direct experience setting up expense and vendor management approval processes and controls. Cross-Border Accounting: Experience with intercompany transfers and reconciliation between US and European entities, including familiarity with the differences between US GAAP and German/European accounting standards. Entrepreneurial Mindset: A genuine "figure it out" orientation — comfortable operating with ambiguity and building solutions without a pre-existing template. AI Curiosity: Openness to learning and applying AI tools for project management and expense tracking; prior hands-on use is a plus but not required. ERP Experience: Prior experience selecting or implementing an ERP system is a strong plus for candidates interested in owning that build-out. Education & Background: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA qualification a plus. Why Join Alden Scientific?
