Project Manager - Transmission & Substation Projects

ABOUT THE ROLEBrooksource is searching for a Project Manager to oversee and execute utility projects, with a focus on substation and transmission line environments. This position will support our Fortune 500 Energy & Utilities client in Charlotte, NC. The Project Manager will lead project teams, manage all phases of project planning and execution, and ensure project success factors such as scope, schedule, cost, quality, safety, environmental compliance, and communication are met. Key projects generally impact facility or department-level operations. The role requires strong leadership, coordination, and reporting skills, as well as the ability to work in outdoor environments and walk on rough terrain during site visits. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required when on site. This position requires a blend of office-based work, remote work, and regular site visits—typically three days onsite or at project locations and two days remote each week. Approximately 20% travel is required, using a personal vehicle (mileage reimbursed), with site visits potentially up to 200 miles one way. WHAT YOU'LL DOLead and coordinate project teams across internal and external stakeholders for utility substation or transmission line projectsPlan and manage all phases of project execution, including scope, schedule, cost, quality, safety, environmental, and regulatory complianceEstablish and maintain effective communication among all project stakeholders, including structuring and leading meetings (kickoff, monthly reviews, weekly updates) and preparing required reportsMonitor project progress, manage risks, and ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and Project Management Center of Excellence (PMCoE) standardsDrive the process of project planning, including scope definition, estimating, schedule formation and monitoring, cost control, procurement/contracting strategies, equipment and vendor selection, start-up, commissioning, and integrationConduct regular site visits, requiring physical activity on rough ground and hills, and ensure compliance with PPE and safety protocols (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest, FR clothing, work boots)Utilize project management and financial tools (e.g., MS Excel, Primavera P6, Ecosys, Powerplant, Maximo) for scheduling, budgeting, and reportingTravel up to 20% of the time to worksites, using a personal vehicle with mileage reimbursementOversee project closeout, including turnover to operations and warranty managementResolve team conflicts and interface with functional managers regarding team member development, placement, and conflict resolutionEnsure all project documentation and reporting meet PMCoE standards and present reports to management and governance teams as requiredWHAT YOU BRINGBachelor’s degree or 4+ years of related professional experience4+ years of project management experience, preferably in utility substation or transmission line projectsProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially ExcelExperience with scheduling tools (e.g., Primavera P6) and financial tools (e.g., Ecosys, Powerplant, Maximo)Ability to lead, manage, and coordinate cross-functional project teams and matrixed team membersStrong communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience leading meetings and preparing reportsKnowledge of project planning, execution, and reporting in accordance with PMCoE standardsAbility to travel up to 20% of the time using a personal vehicle (mileage reimbursed), with site visits potentially up to 200 miles one wayCapable of walking on rough ground and hills during site visits and working in general outdoor environments (heat, cold, insects, etc.)Willingness to wear required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest, FR clothing, work boots) during site visits#LI-WM1
