Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)

San Ysidro Health seeks a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to provide psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and diagnostic services in primary care settings. You will work as part of an integrated behavioral health team alongside primary care physicians, psychiatrists, physician assistants, and behavioral health clinicians to deliver evidence-based pharmacologic treatment and crisis intervention services to patients with mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorders. Clinical Setting You will practice in primary care-based settings serving a diverse, underserved patient population across San Ysidro Health's network of 47 program sites throughout the county. The role emphasizes integrated care delivery, cultural competency, and compliance with California state regulations and professional standards. Responsibilities Perform psychiatric evaluations and provide evidence-based pharmacologic treatment, focusing on patients with diagnostic or therapeutic challenges identified in collaboration with behavioral health clinicians and primary care providers Provide consultation to clinical staff and primary care providers regarding patient care, treatment recommendations, and progress through documentation, face-to-face meetings, and telephone communication Conduct crisis interventions including suicide assessments and make recommendations to medical providers and patients regarding crisis response services and patient safety Complete all required documentation in a timely manner, including clinical notes, medical records, reports, and forms required by the department, company, state, and federal agencies Participate in quality assurance activities including treatment utilization review, medication monitoring, peer review, and process evaluation Participate in regularly scheduled supervision by a psychiatrist for professional development and complex case reviews Develop and deliver in-service training for primary care-based providers, medical residents, and staff regarding best practices for recognition and treatment of behavioral health conditions in primary care Work in coordination with the Chief Behavioral Health Officer and Director of Psychiatry to ensure integrated services and team-based care Participate in treatment team meetings and committees as needed Maintain productivity expectations in accordance with clinic and program guidelines Coordinate with other consulting psychiatrists and primary care providers for vacation coverage to ensure continuity of patient care Assist in supervising interns and unlicensed staff as specified by your license Comply with departmental and health center-wide policies, quality assurance programs, safety standards, and infection control procedures Enhance professional growth through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops Required Qualifications Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner credential Minimum two years of outpatient experience with direct patient care (one year worked as an RN in any direct patient care role may be counted toward this requirement) Minimum one year of experience in a community mental health setting Unrestricted Nurse Practitioner licensure and furnishing number to practice in California by date of hire DEA license by date of hire Successful completion or expected completion by date of hire of the Psychiatric-Mental Health NP Certification board exam CPR certification Experience supervising medical assistants Excellent oral and written communication skills Knowledge of rehabilitation and recovery treatment modalities Knowledge of integrated treatment and care for individuals with co-occurring disorders Knowledge of behavioral medicine, health psychology, and substance use disorder interventions including IMPACT and/or SBIRT models Ability to be culturally sensitive and appropriate in working with minority and underserved communities Ability to demonstrate respect for diversity Ability to exercise tact, objectivity, sensitivity, strategy, and judgment in dealing with a variety of people with co-occurring disorders Ability to organize, set priorities, and exercise sound independent judgment within areas of responsibility Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, family members, other professional staff, and the public Comfort with telehealth video platforms and electronic medical record systems Preferred Qualifications Successful completion of a PMHNP Psychiatry Fellowship in either adult or child and adolescent psychiatry Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Standing, walking, and lifting Assisting patients transferring from wheelchairs Travel to satellite facilities as needed Flexibility to work from home on telemedicine days; if unable to work from home, office space at an alternate site will be provided Ability to adapt to practice settings including in-person, televideo, and telephonic modalities with a flexible, patient-centered approach Pre-Employment Requirements Completion of I-9 verification Physical examination Positive background and reference check results Complete application New hire orientation Pre-employment tuberculin skin test Compliance with all mandated vaccinations and boosters as a term and condition of employment #J-18808-Ljbffr
