Government Information Specialist

Duties

The duties described below are at the full performance level (GS-12). Incumbents hired at the GS-9 or GS-11 grade level will serve in a developmental capacity, where the incumbent works under closer supervision while continuing to exercise supervisory and managerial authority assigned for the position.

- Serves as an Agency expert for records management and administering the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) programs dispersed nationwide

- Advises agency management and ensures compliance with federal laws governing the flow of information

- Develops and implements departmental strategies, plans, standards, and procedures to achieve federal and/or departmental objectives for providing the public and other government agencies with the most effective, reliable, and consistent access to appropriate records and departmental information

- Researches, analyzes, and develops solutions for existing and potential problems within a variety of program areas to include records management and FOIA program

- Applies advanced project management principles to lead and oversee complex records management and FOIA activities involving multiple stakeholders, program offices, or organizational components
