Nurse Practitioner Non‑Acute Care - Neurology (Medical Center) Location: 6560 Fannin St., Houston, TX 77030 Job Ref: JR-8519 | Shift: Day | Job Type: Full Time At Houston Methodist, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) is responsible for functioning as a licensed registered nurse and care provider to provide all aspects of patient care, including diagnosis, treatment, and consultation, while maintaining and promoting patient health. This position may work in both inpatient and outpatient situations and performs according to the Nurse Practice Act of Texas and as part of a treatment team. The NP role models compassionate communication, provides education, conducts physicals, orders tests, and prescribes medications as appropriate. The NP performs direct patient care in accordance with the Houston Methodist Professional Practice Model and related policies. FLSA STATUS: Exempt Qualifications Education Master’s degree or higher from an accredited school of Nursing and graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program Experience Two years of registered nurse, advanced practice or nurse practitioner clinical experience Licenses and Certifications (Required) RN – Registered Nurse, Texas State Licensure (Texas Board of Nursing) – must obtain permanent Texas license within 60 days (if establishing Texas residency) and APRN – Non‑Acute Care state license and Non‑Acute Care ANCC recognized certification and BLS – Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) – American Heart Association and AP – Prescriptive Authority – Texas Board of Nursing – Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation and DEA – Narcotics License (DEA) – Drug Enforcement Administration within 6 months Knowledge and Abilities Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through ongoing assessment. Proficient in English for essential functions affecting safety. Effective communication with patients, physicians, families, and coworkers. Highly developed assessment, clinical, documentation, leadership, and analytical skills. Uses therapeutic communication to establish relationships and collaborate on care plans. Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills to prioritize tasks. Ability to function independently and exercise judgment in interactions. Proficient time‑management. Critical thinking and clinical judgment to work autonomously under the Nurse Practice Act. Essential Functions People Essential Functions Demonstrates leadership as a clinical resource, interprofessional consultant, and patient advocate. Identifies staff development opportunities and provides coaching. Communicates organizational information and administrative practice in a respectful manner. Advocates for balanced workload and promotes teamwork. Collaborates with the interprofessional team to manage patient care. Advocates for patients/families on clinical and ethical concerns. Fosters healthy work relationships, serves as preceptor for NP students and medical residents, and encourages peer accountability toward improvement. Service Essential Functions Coordinates appropriate, timely patient care under physician supervision for a defined patient population, focusing on expected outcomes individualized to the patient. Coordinates patient care among providers; attends interprofessional rounds as appropriate. Drives improvement of patient satisfaction scores through peer accountability to service standards. Quality/Safety Essential Functions Provides quality care, coordinates and promotes patient health, assists in protocol development for safety. Conducts health assessments, identifies health characteristics, develops plans, initiates interventions, evaluates outcomes. Performs invasive, diagnostic, or therapeutic procedures as authorized. Leads quality and safety improvement activities aligned with organizational goals and policies. Finance Essential Functions Implements departmental strategies to achieve financial targets through documentation, efficiency, and length‑of‑stay reduction. Assesses resource allocation based on patient needs and staff expertise. Growth/Innovation Essential Functions Promotes quality care through research integration and evidence‑based activities. Provides education in research and presentations; expands nursing knowledge and coaches staff.
