Job Title: Process/Mold Technician Job Description

The Process/Mold Technician plays a key role in maintaining, repairing, and optimizing molds and injection equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing operations. This position requires advanced knowledge of electronic, process, calibration, and control systems for manufacturing equipment, as well as strong technical expertise in plastic injection molding and hot runner systems. The Process/Mold Technician standardizes and calibrates critical equipment parameters, drives process improvements to reduce cycle time and scrap, and supports continuous improvement initiatives across the molding and assembly departments. The role demands a self-directed individual with a strong sense of urgency who is willing to accept operational responsibility and accountability and can work flexible shifts, including overtime and weekends, as needed to meet production goals.

• Work safely at all times, following OSHA and GMP requirements, and set a strong example for safe behavior, including adherence to lockout/tagout (LOTO), use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and hot surface precautions.
• Foster a safety- and quality-first mindset in all tasks, consistently following plant safety rules, identifying and helping eliminate safety hazards or concerns, and assisting in monitoring the quality of work output.
• Maintain full compliance with company policies, procedures, and quality management system (QMS) requirements.
• Conduct first article inspections and perform in-process quality checks to ensure parts and processes meet specifications.
• Accurately complete production paperwork, downtime logs, and shift reports, ensuring clear documentation of equipment status, issues, and actions taken.
• Follow control plans, work instructions, and QMS procedures to maintain consistent and repeatable manufacturing processes.
• Act as a supportive teammate and lead by example, demonstrating proactive thinking in training and developing shift personnel to maximize operational efficiency and promote a positive, collaborative working environment.
• Interact constructively with coworkers and cross-functional teams to enhance employee satisfaction and minimize conflicts.
• Collaborate with Engineering, production, cross-functional teams, and outside vendors to respond to urgent requests affecting production, support new equipment purchases, assist with equipment installation and commissioning, and complete customer sign-off processes while following all safety requirements.
• Participate actively in the preventive maintenance program by performing scheduled maintenance tasks, ensuring accurate maintenance history records for all equipment, and coordinating or fabricating tools and equipment needed to support various departments.
• Support adherence to a preventive maintenance program that meets or exceeds molding and assembly department performance goals.
• Continually improve job-related skills through training, education, and research, and maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work area in accordance with 5S standards.
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance, performing essential job functions within assigned start and end times.
• Demonstrate strong root cause analysis skills by analyzing equipment and process issues, identifying sustainable solutions, and recommending improvements to upgrade equipment and processes.
• Provide a daily assessment of tooling and process-related issues at the start of each shift, including detailed information on equipment status, issues encountered, corrective actions taken, and preventive activities implemented to avoid additional cost and resource usage.
• Communicate and verify problems and actions to ensure the organization meets its overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) and scrap reduction goals on a daily basis.
• Assist in developing and maintaining clear and understandable process documentation so that all employees can follow standard procedures consistently.
• Provide technical support and solutions for manufacturing processes to improve yield, throughput, and part quality, and to drive cost-reduction initiatives through continual improvement.
• Perform mold changes, set-ups, and start-ups, ensuring all aspects of production are acceptable and meet established standards.
• Apply strong technical knowledge of hot runner systems, including manifolds, nozzles, and valve gate assemblies, and read and interpret prints while maintaining tight assembly tolerances.
• Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues related to molds and hot runners, performing hands-on service, teardown, repair, and reassembly at the bench or in the press as required, and provide timely short- and long-term corrective actions.
• Diagnose, tear down, repair, polish cavities, and reassemble molds at the bench or in the press as needed, and assemble jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies when required.
• Diagnose, repair, and calibrate automated and semi-automated equipment used in the molding and assembly processes.
• Work with PLCs and HMI controls as needed to support equipment troubleshooting and process optimization.
• Use Asset Essentials (CMMS) software to track all planned and unplanned repairs and complete daily inspections generated by the system.
• Ensure the inventory system maintains appropriate tooling spare parts with defined order points, specifications, and cost controls to prevent production downtime due to parts shortages.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support manufacturing operations and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Hands-on experience in plastic injection molding environments, supporting process engineers and production teams.
• Proven experience as a process technician in plastic injection molding, with responsibility for process setup, optimization, and troubleshooting.
• High-level knowledge of electronic, process, calibration, and control systems for manufacturing equipment.
• Strong technical expertise in injection molds and molding equipment, including maintenance, repair, and optimization.
• Ability to standardize and calibrate critical equipment parameters following OEM diagrams, operation manuals, and specifications.
• Demonstrated capability in root cause analysis and implementation of sustainable corrective actions for process and equipment issues.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues related to molds, hot runners, and associated equipment.
• Strong technical knowledge of hot runner systems, including manifolds, nozzles, and valve gate assemblies, with the ability to read prints and maintain tight assembly tolerances.
• Ability to perform mold changes, set-ups, and start-ups, ensuring stable and acceptable production processes.
• Skill in diagnosing, tearing down, repairing, polishing cavities, and reassembling molds both at the bench and in the press.
• Experience diagnosing, repairing, and calibrating automated and semi-automated equipment.
• Familiarity with PLCs and HMI controls used in manufacturing environments.
• Ability to use CMMS software (such as Asset Essentials) to track repairs and complete daily inspections.
• Strong documentation skills for completing production paperwork, downtime logs, shift reports, and process documentation accurately.
• Commitment to safety and quality, with demonstrated adherence to OSHA, GMP, LOTO, PPE, and plant safety rules.

• Experience supporting process engineers in a plastics or injection molding environment.
• Previous process technician experience specifically in plastic injection molding operations.
• Nice to have: 5 or more years of experience working in a plastics manufacturing environment.
• Experience participating in and supporting preventive maintenance programs for molding and assembly equipment.
• Ability to coordinate and fabricate tools, jigs, fixtures, and equipment to support various departments.
• Familiarity with quality management systems (QMS), control plans, work instructions, and first article inspection processes.
• Experience with continuous improvement initiatives focused on yield, throughput, cost reduction, and scrap elimination.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate maintenance history records and inventory controls for tooling spare parts.
• Comfort working cross-functionally with Engineering, production, and external vendors on equipment-related projects and urgent production issues.
• Ability to maintain a clean, orderly work area in line with 5S standards and support a culture of operational excellence.

This is a fully on-site role in a manufacturing facility that operates on Wednesday through Saturday 10-hour shifts, with occasional rotating weekend work based on production needs. The environment includes plastic injection molding equipment, hot runner systems, automated and semi-automated machinery, and PLC/HMI-controlled systems. The role involves working around machinery, hot surfaces, and moving equipment, requiring strict adherence to OSHA, GMP, LOTO, and PPE requirements. Preventive maintenance, mold changes, and equipment troubleshooting are performed both at the press and at the bench. The facility promotes a safety- and quality-first culture, emphasizes teamwork, and follows 5S principles to maintain clean and organized work areas. The schedule may vary with overtime and shift adjustments to meet company goals, and team members are expected to be flexible and responsive to production demands.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Erlanger, KY.

The pay range for this position is $37.00 - $37.00/hr.
