RN Med/Surg Telemetry

The Registered Nurse in the Medical/Surgical telemetry unit is responsible for delivering patient-centered care in accordance with established standards, protocols, and policies. This role involves providing skilled nursing care including cardiac monitoring, medication administration, patient assessment, pain management, and patient/family education. The nurse collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to ensure continuity of care, safety, and positive patient outcomes. Acute telemetry experience and ACLS certification are required for this position. Responsibilities:

• Provide patient care based on standards of care, protocols, and policies, respecting patient dignity and individuality.
• Perform patient and family teaching tailored to learning needs and readiness.
• Plan and prepare patients and families for discharge, incorporating support resources.
• Delegate and supervise nursing interventions appropriately.
• Prioritize patient care effectively, seeking assistance and reassigning personnel as needed.
• Document all pertinent data, interventions, and patient responses thoroughly and timely.
• Provide comprehensive reports to healthcare team members to ensure continuity of care.
• Serve as preceptor or trainer and participate in professional development activities.
• Identify and report patient safety risks and medical errors proactively.
• Address ethical issues in patient care and develop plans accordingly.
• Administer medications and intravenous therapy safely according to orders and protocols.
• Assess and manage patient pain using numerical scales and appropriate interventions.
• Complete medication reconciliation documentation for physician use.
• Interpret and document cardiac rhythms and initiate treatment plans as ordered.
• Take appropriate action for patients with chest pain or cardiac symptoms.
• Participate actively in multidisciplinary rounds for patient care planning and evaluation.
• Recognize and report abnormal laboratory and diagnostic results promptly.
• Provide ongoing assessment and education to surgical patients and families following standards.
• Utilize pain management devices and techniques to ensure effective relief.
• Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot surgical patient equipment such as traction devices, feeding pumps, chest tubes, and drains.

• Current Registered Nurse license in Massachusetts.
• ACLS certification upon hire.
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Minimum of 1 year acute telemetry experience required.
• Competency in clinical assessment, medication administration, and cardiac rhythm interpretation.
• Strong communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.

• Previous Medical-Surgical nursing experience preferred.
• Experience with surgical patient care and related equipment.
• MOAB class certification within 60 days of hire.

• Must be able to respond to life-threatening situations and emergencies promptly.
• Work environment includes acute telemetry and medical-surgical units requiring high attention to patient safety and detail.
• Involvement in multidisciplinary rounds and collaborative care planning is essential.

• Shift assignments may vary based on unit needs; flexibility to work day, evening, or night shifts is expected.
• Shift patterns are determined by the healthcare facility's scheduling policies.
