FT Maintenance Technician

Job TitleJob duties include operating and maintaining a variety of tools, vehicles, and equipment, including HVAC systems, lighting, and street equipment. The role involves troubleshooting, performing preventive maintenance, and conducting minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and roofing repairs. Responsibilities may extend to maintaining college-owned vehicles, including routine inspections and repairs of vans, trucks, and landscaping equipment. Additional tasks may include assisting with grounds maintenance, snow removal, and arboretum upkeep. Emergency response and timely resolution of vandalism, repairs, and system malfunctions are also expected.Position will work four 6AM-4PM shifts each weekEssential Job DutiesDuties may include, but are not limited to:Load, unload and transport parts, materials, and equipmentOperate small hand and power toolsOperate a variety of air toolsOperate spray unitsOperate power driven street equipmentOperate vehicles and equipment including bucket trucks and pick-up trucksMay occasionally operate heavy equipmentClean and maintain tools and mechanical equipmentPerform minor plumbing, electrical and carpentry workRespond to emergency callsRepair vandalismPerform maintenance on HVAC unitsInstall, repair, clean or replace light fixtures, ballasts, switches, and outletsRepair minor roof leaksPerform minor building repairs and alterationsPerform painting duties: sand, caulk, prime and paintTroubleshoot, service and perform repairs on decorative streetlights, parking lot lights, and area lightingConduct routine maintenance and complete preventive maintenance reports monthlyMay be asked to complete arboretum and grounds tasks such as mowing, landscaping, plant maintenance, cleaning gutters, leaf removal, street and sidewalk cleaning, and snow removal.Operation of college-owned vehicles.Other duties as assigned.QualificationsMinimum High School Diploma or equivalent and 1 to 2 years of experience in building upkeep including plumbing and carpentry, as well as knowledge of vehicle maintenance. Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Preferred AAS or Diploma in Building Construction Technology, Electrical Systems Technology, Industrial Systems Technology or HVAC Systems Technology.; forklift certification; Building Operator Certification, HVAC license or certification. Licensing Requirement - Valid North Carolina Driver's License. Satisfactory Motor Vehicle record.Physical Demands - Must be physically capable of sustained lifting of up to 50 lbs, standing, crouching, climbing and walkingPhysical strength/agility sufficient to perform a wide variety of frequent physical tasks including moving equipment/ furniture, operating equipment, lifting, stooping and bendingSpeak, read and understand sufficiently to successfully receive/provide information.Working Conditions - Work in and outdoors. Work in ice and snow includes slippery conditions as well as temperature and weather extremes.Hazard Assessment - This position may encounter hazardous situations as a part of duties to protect the safety of students, faculty, staff, and the campus property.Personal Protective Equipment - Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriate for job assignments, subject to all OSHA industry safety standards, and manufacturer's standards.
