Maintenance Tech - 1st ShiftMetals USA has an immediate opening for a Maintenance Tech - 1st Shift in the Waggaman, LA location. The Maintenance Tech performs basic diagnostic tests, evaluates equipment performance, performs preventive maintenance, troubleshoots routine and emergency repairs on equipment.Duties & Responsibilities:Repairs, services and inspects facility equipment and property to include: overhead cranes, production machinery, material handling equipment and facility grounds.Complies with company and OSHA safety policies and safe work practices, e.g. lock out/tag out, safety data sheets and hazardous material usage.Operates industrial equipment and observes mechanical operation to determine efficiency and to detect problemsInspects or tests damaged machine parts, and marks defective areas or advises supervisor of repair needs.Performs building and equipment maintenance, repair and improvements. Performs preventive maintenance on CNC machinery, electrical and hydraulic systems, overhead cranes and other fabricating equipment.Installs, replaces, or changes machine parts, attachments and new equipment according to production specificationsReassembles machines after the completion of repair or maintenance workLubricates or applies adhesives or other materials to machines, machine parts, or other equipment, according to specified proceduresRecords production, repair, and machine maintenance informationReads maintenance repair work orders and specifications to determine machine and equipment requiring repair or maintenanceInspects, operates or test machinery or equipment to diagnose malfunctions.Sets up and operates machines, and adjust controls to regulate operationsCollaborates with other workers to repair or move machines, machine parts, or equipmentMaintains equipment files and orders spare-parts inventory on service center equipment and work effectively with operations to implement a preventive maintenance program to improve equipment uptime (or reliability)Drives company motor vehicle (non-DOT) occasionally for local pick-up for parts or equipmentPlans and lay out repair work, using diagrams, drawings, blueprints, maintenance manuals, or schematic diagrams.Notifies management of any problems that might affect production schedules.Regular and predictable attendance is required to perform the duties of a maintenance technician.Performs other duties as assigned.Metals USA offers a competitive starting salary and benefits plus upward mobility professional growth.Metals USA provides equal employment opportunities to applicants and employees w/o regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, protected veteran status or disability.Metals USA is committed to protecting our employees by creating and maintaining a workplace free of substance abuse.High School diploma or GEDComprehend industrial electrical, mechanical, hydraulic systems, and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics.Experience in diagnosing and repairing equipment in one or more of the following areas: CNC Plasma Cutting, Abrasive Blasting, Preservation Lines, Hydraulic Press, or similar steel processing/shipbuilding equipment.Ability to read English maintenance work orders, schematics/blueprints, safety, and policy manuals.Knowledge of 3 phase 480 volt electrical and motor control systems.Experience operating an overhead crane, forklift, and hand tools preferred.Basic knowledge of Microsoft Products preferred.Ability to perform electronic, mechanical, and hydraulic repairs used in electrical and mechanical work assignments.Demonstrated manual dexterity, finger dexterity, arm-hand steadiness, and multi-limb coordination.Must be able to work a flexible schedule and be on call at various times including weekends.Candidate required to pass pre-employment drug screening.Physical Demands:Occupation requires physical activity more than 66% of the time ( > 5.5 hours per day)Stand, walk, sit, handling/fingering, reach outward, reach above shoulder, climb, squat or kneel or bendLift, carry, push and/or pull 51 -- 100 lbs. with assistanceOther Physical Requirements:Must wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE)Steel-toed boots or metatarsal bootsHard hats with chin strap; chin strap must be worn at all times while in the warehouseProtective eyewearHand protectionArm guards/sleevesHearing protection if required by the hearing conservation programWork Environment:May be exposed to some of the following working conditions.Environmental temperature changes hot & coldWorking inside and outside of an industrial warehouseModerate to loud levelsVibrationOils, dust, fumes and metallic particlesDay and night shifts
