Focused on the suma app, an e-commerce marketplace that low-income households use to purchase and save money on essential expenses (food, transportation, utilities) and to protect their data. Justice . Suma builds community leadership in technology policymaking and overcomes the digital divide. Organizing. Suma brings digital capacity building curriculum, privacy dialogues and free devices to vulnerable communities. Purpose & Role Summary As a staff member, the Digital Justice Organizer largely works between two of suma’s programs: our Justice program and our Organizing program. We see these two programs as foundational to our Enterprise program, where the majority of suma’s funding, projects, and time is spent. This is a full-time hybrid position for someone interested or experienced in organizing, education, and/or advocacy, who wants to build meaningful, lasting work at the intersection of digital equity, community education, and policy advocacy. You will be the primary staff person driving suma's justice and organizing work, with direct support from the Director of Operations who has been overseeing this work. This position will inherit existing relationships, past curriculum, and an active coalition presence, and will have the mandate to grow from there. In your first year you'll convene community privacy dialogues, take over suma's policy voice at the state and city level, and lay the groundwork for legislative advocacy work heading into Oregon's 2027 long session. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast paced, evolving environment, is motivated by equity, community impact, and tech-enabled solutions, and is self-motivated and directive. This role divides time across three areas:

• 35% Justice Program: Supporting suma's justice initiatives and community organizing work
• 50% Organizing Program: Leading privacy and security outreach to platform users, validators, and frontline partners
• 15% Enterprise Program Support: Assisting with community events and vendor engagement

Core Responsibilities Justice Program Support suma's justice program initiatives, including research, community engagement, and coalition building Represent suma in the Oregon Consumer Alliance (Oregon Consumer Justice), attending meetings and legislative days to build relationships with policymakers Develop and maintain suma's foundational knowledge of digital justice policy at the city and state level Increase representation of disability-led and disability-serving organizations in suma's justice program initiatives Represent suma in the Protect PCEF Coalition, in collaboration with the Executive Director Contribute justice and organizing updates to suma's newsletter Assist in maintaining the justice and organizing section of suma's website (in collaboration with the Brand and Marketing Manager) Document learnings and help shape suma's justice program strategy over time Organizing Program Design and facilitate community workshops and privacy dialogues with suma platform users, partner organizations, and frontline community groups Share suma's privacy and security best practices to help partners protect their teams and community members Facilitate workshops, trainings, and one-on-one conversations on digital safety topics in a community-centered manner Coordinate with partner organizations to host in-person events, especially within the communities that suma serves Gather and document community feedback to inform suma's ongoing privacy and platform strategy Incorporate disability-led co-design principles for community engagement activities per suma's 2026 Ease & Accessibility Report and Audit Draw on suma's existing curriculum and user testing as a foundation, adapting and expanding over time Enterprise Program (Support) Assist with community events in suma's enterprise program, including logistics, presence, and on-the-ground support Help engage community members at suma-hosted events Surface feedback from events that informs suma's platform strategy Serve as a connective presence between suma's platform work and the communities the suma’s programs serve Who We're Looking For We're looking for someone with some experience in community organizing, advocacy, education, or a related field who is ready to build upon these skill sets. Additionally someone who: Has a genuine commitment to racial, economic, or climate justice Is comfortable speaking with community members in person Has knowledge, or is at least curious, about digital privacy and security and is excited to learn and teach others Is highly organized and can follow through on commitments Can work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-moving, small team environment Is comfortable with digital tools such as Google Workspace, Slack, ClickUp (or other program management software) Has lived experience in the communities suma serves Qualifications Required Two years of relevant experience in community organizing, teaching, political work, tech (e.g., fundraising, outreach, project management, etc.) Strong communication and collaboration across diverse groups Ability to manage priorities in hybrid/fast-paced settings Attention to detail and reporting Cultural humility and community-centered mindset Preferred Experience with community organizing, canvassing, or outreach in any capacity Familiarity with digital security concepts such as VPNs, two-factor authentication, or phishing awareness Bilingual skills — especially languages spoken in Portland's BIPOC communities Experience with event coordination or community programming Experience with digital equity or economic justice work Tools: Google Workspace, ClickUp, Slack Working Environment Some evenings/weekends required Local travel and occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs) Hybrid setting (remote and in-person support), with weekly in-person coworking on Wednesdays Our Commitment We value lived experience, cultural insight, and frontline leadership.
