Bus Aide

The Bus Aide plays a crucial role in assisting with the transportation of students, including those with special needs, within the North Little Rock School District. Responsibilities include helping with loading and unloading students, ensuring students' adherence to safety rules, and maintaining order on the bus.

Essential Functions:

• Maintain a high standard of professional conduct, including punctual attendance and independent time-management.
• Clock in at the assigned scheduled time.
• Clock out in a timely manner upon completing assigned duties and tasks.
• Ride on the assigned bus, unless directed otherwise by a Dispatcher.
• Sit in a seat facilitating student observation and management, typically at the rear of the bus or behind the last occupied student seat.
• Assist the bus driver, parents, and school personnel in loading and unloading students, particularly preschool and physically impaired students.
• Check the wheelchair lift operation daily and reviews wheelchair securing points and occupant restraints for proper functioning.
• Assist the bus driver and students in following school bus rules and procedures.
• Assist the driver with maintaining an updated seating chart with student information and ensures each student's presence on the bus.
• Ensure seat belts, wheelchair secure points and occupant restraints are properly stored when not in use.
• Remain alert to student needs, provide directions, and maintain order.
• Keeps records of student injuries and report them immediately to the dispatcher or director of transportation.
• Maintain discipline when students are on the bus and submit conduct referrals to report misconduct following the proper protocol.
• Perform various relevant duties, including securing wheelchairs, cleaning up students, helping the driver clean the bus, securing carry-on items, and assisting with inspections.
• Familiarize themselves with assigned routes, runs, bus stops, student names, and exceptionalities.
• Provide assistance to substitute bus drivers when needed.
• Maintain knowledge of first-aid procedures.
• Attend monthly and annual trainings.
• Prioritize safety as an essential function of daily operation, consistently adhering to all regulatory guidelines and district policies.
• Follow all District protocols and board policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation.

Position Qualifications:

• Minimum age of eighteen (18) years of age

Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred. Experience: No prior experience is necessary.

Other Requirements: Drug screening, non-DOT physical, FBI and ASP Background check, Child Maltreatment Background Check.

Physical Demands: Lift/Carry, Stand, Walk, Sit, Handling / Fingering, Reach Outward, Reach Above Shoulder, Climb, Crawl, Squat or Kneel, Bend.

Work Environment: The School Bus Aide must perform their duties in a variety of weather conditions, including extreme cold and extreme heat.
