LATENT PRINT EXAMINER (CLASS CODE 5266)

First level technical position in forensic science analyzing friction ridge evidence using appropriate protocols. Work includes performing forensic examination in the area of pattern and impression evidence, analyzing latent prints on physical evidence, and comparing friction ridge skin impressions. The examiner completes all work aligning with ISO17025 accreditation standards, writes reports of findings, enters prints into the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) database, and provides courtroom testimony as needed. This position is pending City Council approval. Responsibilities Conduct forensic examination of friction ridge evidence and latent prints. Analyze and compare prints and skin impressions. Prepare and submit detailed reports of findings. Enter data into AFIS database. Provide courtroom testimony as required. Qualifications A Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Forensics, Criminal Justice, Evidence Technology, Biology, Chemistry, or a closely related field with one year of experience in latent print examinations. OR an Associate’s Degree in a related field with at least two years of experience. OR a High School Diploma or GED with three years of experience. OR certification as a Latent Print Examiner through the International Association of Identification (IAI). Education and certifications must be verified by the hiring agency.
