Position Overview Department: 36102 Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital - Emergency Department Status: Full time Benefits Eligible: Yes Hours Per Week: 40 Schedule Details / Additional Information: Looking for a dynamic, emotionally intelligent individual wanting to join our ED Team. Previous frontline leadership & Level 1 Trauma Center experience. ACLS/PALS/TNCC/ECRN CEN/CPEN/TCRN a plus. Flexible weekday schedule: 5x 8‑hour shifts or 4x 10‑hour shifts (prefer 0600 start time). Pay Range: $44.15 - $66.25 Location: Downers Grove, IL – 29 bed Emergency Department with additional 11 beds available 313 bed Level 1 Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center. Responsibilities Collaborate with the Emergency Services Leadership Team to ensure departmental practices and outcomes are compliant with IDPH, DNV, EMSC, and other licensing/accrediting bodies and agencies. Participate in the continuous development and implementation of unit‑based quality improvement initiatives in collaboration with the Emergency Department Nurse Manager and Clinical Nurse Specialist. Encourage and facilitate staff participation in Unit‑Based Shared Governance, as to foster optimal nursing clinical quality and performance improvement. Collaborate with the ED Nurse Manager, Medical Director and ED Clinical Nurse Specialist to evaluate quality and appropriateness of care delivered. Contribute to the development and implementation of action plans, collect and analyze data, and make adjustments to achieve desired outcomes. Collaborate with the ED Nurse Manager and ED Clinical Nurse Specialist to ensure all associates are compliant with established care delivery and practices. Promote evidence‑based practice by utilizing clinical guidelines and procedures currently in the literature. In partnership with ED Nurse Manager and Clinical Nurse Specialist, foster and facilitate a climate conducive to educational experiences for associates and encourage staff to seek additional knowledge and skill by pursuing formal education, certification, and professional development. Participate in the development and implementation of annual competency education with the Emergency Services Leadership Team. Provide formal and informal education to staff in conjunction with accrediting requirements based on needs of clinical staff, as to enhance nursing knowledge and the advancement of nursing practice. Autonomously monitor individual performance of staff regarding quality initiatives, Behaviors of Excellence as to contribute to annual performance evaluations. Participate in interviewing, hiring, and competency assessment of staff in conjunction with the ED Nurse Manager and ED Clinical Nurse Specialist. Serve as a role model in providing optimal patient experiences, demonstrating supportive communication styles and techniques based on individual patient and family needs, and utilizing positive behaviors/interventions in addressing patient and family concerns. Perform rounding on patients utilizing key words and questions as to assess patients' perception of the hospital experience, to provide leadership to clinical staff regarding patient engagement and loyalty, and monitor individual associate performance and effectiveness specific to patient engagement. Responsible for first‑line Service Recovery of patient, family and physician complaints, continued follow‑through in conjunction with ED Nurse Manager. Communicate unresolved issues to ED Nurse Manager, and other unit managers and leadership team members as appropriate. Review patient satisfaction scores and patient experience feedback as to assist the ED Nurse Manager and CNS in identifying trends and developing action plans focused on building loyal patient relationships, and maintaining top decile ED Patient Satisfaction goals. Collaborate with Manager and Charge Nurses on processes to improve patient satisfaction. Actively round the physical ED environment as to evaluate and support its readiness for providing positive patient experiences, engage and delegate to staff accordingly to meet readiness. Provide direct supervision of associates and accept accountability for services provided on the unit. Provide feedback and coaching to associates as to ensure optimal clinical and enterprise outcomes. Consistently round on associates as to role‑model the Behaviors of Excellence, monitor morale, follow up on organizational initiatives, and improve associate retention. Follow established processes for addressing and resolving employee complaints and concerns. Involve staff in short and long‑term unit planning. Facilitate participation of staff in decision making and support staff involvement in shared governance at both the unit and organizational level. Conduct timely performance reviews of all staff. Incorporate peer review in annual performance evaluations for all associates. Participate and develop associate orientation to the unit, in collaboration with the ED Clinical Nurse Specialist. Conduct routine check‑ins with new hires to ensure engagement and retention. Provide timely and supportive feedback during the orientation period and beyond. Consistently recognize the accomplishments of unit associates and participate in the development and implementation of a formal recognition program. Assist associates with the staff scheduling processes, in collaboration with the ED Nurse Manager and Administrative Assistant. Model service and leadership performance consistent with nursing and organizational strategic goals. Demonstrate effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution skills as part of daily work. Promote collaboration among hospital and departmental team members. Actively collaborate with other departments and members of the healthcare team as to ensure the needs of the Emergency Department and patients are adequately met. Focus on team‑building and fostering long‑term relationships throughout the hospital and the unit. Ensure care delivery is safe and of high quality following policy and procedure. Serve as a role model to clinical staff regarding evidence‑based initiatives. Develops and maintains departmental staff schedule that maintains optimal patient outcomes and departmental operation, in collaboration with the ED Nurse Manager and Administrative Assistant. Provide direct patient care to ED patients via a leadership role, in conjunction with the unit Charge Nurse. May assume primary responsibility for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for Emergency Department patients as necessary. Provide referrals and discharge planning for Emergency Department patients utilizing an interdisciplinary approach. Utilizes the nursing process as a problem‑solving model. Recognizes acute clinical changes and intervenes appropriately. Role models the ability to care for all ED patient populations and serve as a resource to clinical staff. Develop and maintain therapeutic and holistic relationships as to assist patient's and their family through the healthcare continuum. Complete all mandatory education and maintains certifications. Collaborate with physicians to develop and implement strategies to address and resolve physician complaints and concerns. Identify opportunities for physician recognition and follow through to provide positive feedback. Develop and maintain positive ED physician and APC relations, implement strategies for provider and ED staff partnership and collaboration. Monitor unit productivity levels to ensure proper resource utilization and identify opportunities for improvement. Involve staff in the development of new processes as appropriate and promote cost containment activities. In collaboration with Coord ED Services/Lead Tech ensure adequate and appropriate supplies and equipment are available and stocked on the unit. Coordinate routine equipment checks and monitor compliance. Maintain focus on internal and external customer service to develop and maintain loyal relationships. Qualifications Current RN license in the State of Illinois. Current CPR, ACLS, ENPC or PALS, and TNS. Demonstrated leadership experience and behaviors. Experience: 1 year leadership experience, 3 years relevant clinical experience. B.S.N. required. Expertise in clinical area. Ability to communicate effectively and work cohesively with a diverse work group. Utilize critical thinking and timely decision making. Basic computer knowledge. Organized. Physical Requirements & Working Conditions Schedule flexibility to be available in the department during all shifts, be present for leadership meetings and development. Work within a rapidly changing environment. Work collaboratively with internal/external customers. Demonstrate a commitment to patient‑focused care. Prioritize independently and respond to multiple simultaneous requests. Work under stressful conditions and in difficult situations. Perform lifting/transfer activities related to patients as described below. Take over 24‑hour coverage of unit in absence of Manager. Transport objects from one location to another. Recognize needs and behaviors of specific age groups of patients treated. Acknowledge potential to be exposed to hazardous materials and life‑threatening diseases. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case‑by‑case basis. NIH Stroke Scale annual education - total of 8 hours of stroke education/year (inclusive of the NIH education).
