Staffing Specialist - Clinical Resources

$19.37 - $28.09 per hour

Position Overview UHS is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Staffing Specialist to support nursing operations across Wilson Medical Center and Binghamton General Hospital. This role coordinates daily staffing to ensure coverage aligns with patient needs, maintains accurate schedules in staffing systems, and communicates real‑time updates to nursing leadership. The Staffing Specialist also supports census management, assists with patient flow and transfers, and prepares staffing summaries to guide operational decisions. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who is comfortable with technology and thrives in a fast‑paced healthcare environment. Responsibilities Responding to call‑offs and staffing gaps, performing administrative support tasks, and delivering excellent customer service while collaborating with clinical teams. Coordinating daily nursing staffing across all units to ensure coverage aligns with approved staffing plans and real‑time operational needs. Communicating staffing information clearly with nursing leadership and interdisciplinary teams to support timely decision making and collaboration. Preparing daily shift‑based staffing summaries to provide leadership with actionable visibility into workforce utilization. Maintaining and updating department schedules in scheduling software to ensure accurate data integrity for forecasting, reporting, and optimization. Performing clerical and administrative tasks including phone management, message routing, documentation, and record maintenance to support smooth office operations. Supporting daily operations of the Clinical Resource Office by assisting with bed census management and coordinating patient transfers to optimize patient flow. Collecting and entering transfer center consult data and operational metrics to support reporting, analysis, and continuous improvement. Delivering high‑quality customer service using de‑escalation techniques and professional communication to promote trust, clarity, and positive working relationships. Following organizational policies and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance and consistent operational standards. Executing additional assigned tasks to support departmental efficiency and organizational goals. Education & Experience Minimum required: High school diploma or equivalent. 1 year experience working in a healthcare related field. Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) or similar electronic tools. Preferred: Previous healthcare scheduling experience in an acute setting. Preferred: Associate’s degree in healthcare administration, Business Administration, or related field. Licenses/Certifications: Preferred NYS Certified Nursing Assistant, MOA, EMT. Schedule & Compensation Primary Work Shift: Rotational. Current openings include: Evening rotational shift – 32 hours/week; Night shift – 24 hours/week; Every third weekend. Compensation Range: $19.37 - $28.09 per hour, depending on experience. Eligibility for benefits: Hired into a regular position with at least 24 scheduled weekly hours.
