RN II - MedSurg/Tele

This position is for a Registered Nurse (RN) II specializing in Medical Surgical and Telemetry care on the 4th floor. The RN will provide patient-centered care while working in a telemetery unit.

Unit Information

• Unit Type: Telemetry
• Number of Beds: 48 (Two units 4A and 4B)
• Patient-to-Nurse Ratio: 1:5
• Common Diagnoses: COVID, respiratory issues, gastrointestinal conditions, diabetes, transient ischemic attack (TIA), cerebrovascular accident (CVA), along with general, orthopedic, and spinal surgical patients.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and interpret telemetry strips; sign off at least once per shift.
• Coordinate patient care with the healthcare team including charge nurses and house supervisors, while not assuming a patient assignment.
• Provide care for a diverse patient population with specific attention to telemetry needs.
• Utilize Bipap, Cpap, high flow systems, and perform breathing treatments as required.

Work Schedule

• Shifts: 12 hours, from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, including a 30-minute unpaid lunch.
• Scheduling: Self-scheduling used for a 4-week rotation; final schedules balanced by management.
• Weekend Requirement: 2 weekends per 4-week schedule.
• Holiday Requirement: Work 2 days and 1 evening or 2 evenings and 1 day during major holidays such as Christmas, New Year's, and Thanksgiving.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a telemetry or med-surg role.
• Skill Requirements: Previous experience with general and orthopedic surgical patients; familiarity with CVA and TIA care.
• Certifications: Active ACLS and BLS certifications are required.
• Preferred Skills: Experience with Cerner system is recommended due to limited orientation.

Additional Information

• Nurse Aides available with a ratio of 1:10-15.
• No requirement to titrate drips; Diltiazem administered at a set rate.
• Floating may be required to other units within the organization, depending on qualifications.
• Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs.
• Unit orientation consists of one shift for acclimatization.
