Junior Specialist - Division of Endocrinology

Position Overview Full-time Junior Specialist in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism within the Department of Internal Medicine, University of California Davis School of Medicine. Salary range: Exempt: $57,000 at step 1 or $60,700 at step 2. Non‑Exempt: $27.30/hr at step 1 or $29.08/hr at step 2. Responsibilities and Designated Areas of Expertise The Junior Specialist will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) in planning and executing a research project. Duties include data collection, entry, and quality control; study design and implementation; literature reviews; data analysis; manuscript preparation; and conference presentation preparation. Primary research responsibilities (≈90%): facilitate cell line manipulation, gene expression, cloning, protein‑protein interaction studies, and animal experimental models. Perform technical lab activities, assist with experimental protocols, and work independently on basic techniques after training. Professional competence (≈5%): actively disseminate information at professional societies and departmental seminars, journal clubs, and other events. University and public service (≈5%): mentor undergraduate research assistants, participate in laboratory meetings, committee service, and other group activities. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related field, with at least one year of laboratory research experience. Experience working in a research laboratory or using specific research methods and techniques. Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and make critical decisions. Strong organizational and time‑management skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word). Additional qualifications (preferred) Experience and expertise in genetics and/or metabolomics data analysis and interpretation. Flexible work schedule.
