Registered Nurse (RN) - Palliative Care

Job Overview

The Palliative Care unit is dedicated to providing relief from the symptoms associated with serious illnesses. The focus is on enhancing the quality of life for patients undergoing treatment and experiencing issues such as uncontrolled pain, severe nausea/vomiting, failure to thrive, and fatigue. This position offers registered nurses the opportunity to develop their palliative care skills while gaining experience in various high-acuity medical surgical units through floating assignments.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer nursing care and support to patients receiving palliative care.
• Manage symptoms related to serious illnesses, ensuring patient comfort and quality of life.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to create comprehensive care plans.
• Utilize critical thinking skills to assess patient conditions and respond appropriately.
• Float to other units of equivalent or lower acuity as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of acute care nursing experience required.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory.
• Experience with electronic medical record systems, specifically EPIC, is required.
• Previous travel nursing experience is preferred.

Work Schedule

This position involves a rotating schedule that may include day shifts, night shifts, or a combination of both, depending on departmental needs. Shift assignments will be reviewed every 4-week scheduling period, although changes are not guaranteed and will be based on staffing requirements at that time.
