Who’s the business Zanda is partnering with a private equity–backed independent media company, a scaled, profitable business continuing to expand across multiple content and advertising channels. The company operates across podcasting, digital media, and live experiences, with a strong focus on building scalable monetization strategies across its platforms. With continued growth and increasing operational complexity, the company is now looking to appoint a Controller to take full ownership of the accounting function and ensure the business is operating with a high level of financial rigor and accuracy. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role will work closely with the FP&A function to strengthen reporting, improve close processes, and support the business as it continues to scale. While the company has offices in both New York and Indiana, there is a preference for this individual to be based in New York City, with flexibility for Indianapolis‑based candidates. What you’ll be responsible for Own the end‑to‑end accounting function, including general ledger, month‑end close, and financial reporting processes Lead and optimize the month‑end close cycle (currently ~10 days), with a goal of driving increased efficiency and shortening timelines Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements in accordance with US GAAP Manage the annual audit process and act as the primary point of contact for external auditors Maintain show‑ and project‑level detail in the general ledger, ensuring accurate cost tracking and appropriate capitalization of content production costs across both in‑production and released shows Oversee tax processes in partnership with external advisors, including federal and state income tax, sales tax, state and local tax compliance, and coordination of partnership K‑1s Maintain and take full ownership of the NetSuite ERP system, ensuring data integrity and scalable processes Prepare and deliver monthly reporting packages for private equity stakeholders and senior leadership, partnering closely with FP&A on narrative, variance analysis, and ensuring alignment between actuals and the financial plan Own the end‑to‑end payroll process, ensuring accurate and timely execution across all entities Manage treasury operations, including banking systems, AP approval workflows, and wire transfers Strong technical accounting foundation, with hands‑on experience in revenue recognition (ASC 606) across complex revenue streams, equity and partnership accounting, accruals, consolidations, and cash‑flow statement preparation Assess and improve existing accounting processes, building on a solid foundation to enhance efficiency and scalability Hire and manage junior accounting talent, including an initial Senior Accountant hire, while working with outsourced resources in the interim Leverage systems and emerging technologies (including AI tools) to streamline workflows and maintain a lean, high‑performing finance function What we’re looking for 10–13 years of experience across public accounting and in‑house finance roles CPA required Proven experience operating in a hands‑on Controller or Senior Manager capacity within a high‑growth or mid‑sized business Demonstrated ownership of the full close process and financial reporting in a lean environment Experience working in private equity–backed or investor‑driven businesses is preferred Strong technical accounting skillset, including accruals, equity accounting, and financial statement preparation Comfortable working in a hands‑on environment, with the ability to both execute and build processes Experience managing or mentoring small teams (1–2 people) and scaling functions over time Familiarity with NetSuite Interest in leveraging technology and automation to improve finance operations Location New York City (hybrid, 4 days in office) or Indianapolis (5 days in office) #J-18808-Ljbffr Zanda
