Our team members have what they need to make a meaningful impact and are truly valued for who they are and what they contribute.To learn more about CIBC, please visit CIBC.comWhat You’ll Be DoingThe Energy, Infrastructure & Transition (EIT) team is the largest investment banking team at CIBC and focuses on clients in the United States, Canada and Europe across broad sector coverage including traditional sectors of power generation, utilities, upstream and midstream energy, transportation, and social infrastructure, plus emerging energy transition sectors including renewable power, carbon capture, hydrogen, renewable fuels, among other emerging low-carbon solutions. CIBC was named North American Financial Advisor of the year in 2024 by Infrastructure Journal Global (IJGlobal).This Associate role is based in Houston and primary focus is on the midstream and pipeline, LNG and carbon capture sectors, with increasing focus on other emerging energy transition sectors. The primary roles and responsibilities for this Associate position include working with Managing Directors, Executive Directors, Directors, Associates and Analysts to complete financial modeling and analysis, research, transaction structuring and to generally support the senior professionals with business development and transaction execution activities. The Associate will be trained to maintain an awareness of our clients and industry.How You’ll SucceedDevelop and audit sophisticated financial analyses and financial modelsPrepare industry and financial analysis to determine client opportunities and recommendationsLead industry valuation analysis including discounted cash flows, comparable company, and precedent transaction analysesAssist in developing proposals to clients and potential clients for equity and debt placements, mergers, asset or company divestitures or acquisitions, and other financial products and advisory servicesOrganize presentations to potential clients, assisting in the development of presentation informationConduct industry research and analysis to assist in the identification and/or analysis of investment banking business opportunitiesParticipate in cross functional teams and liaising with other units of CIBC Capital Markets in executing mandates or preparing proposals for clientsAssist in company due diligence investigationsPrepare offering memoranda and marketing materialsParticipate in external client interactionWho You AreUndergraduate degree in Math, Engineering, Business, Economics, or related disciplineMinimum of 3 years’ experiencePrevious investment banking or corporate finance experience, combined with other relevant corporate finance training Extremely dedicated and motivated individual with high career aspirations. Must be capable of assuming significant levels of responsibility for assignments to be completed within short time framesExcellent analytical ability including demonstrated knowledge of valuation techniques and practices, including cash-flow analysisStrong technical, computational and quantitative skillsStrong interest in and knowledge of financial markets and the energy or energy infrastructure sectorsExcellent understanding of financial statements, credit analysis and accounting principlesKnowledge of accounting principles relating to financial statement preparation and business combinationsProven ability to pay close attention to detail and multi-task under tight deadlinesExcellent interpersonal and presentation skillsWell-developed organizational skills in order to respond to shifting priorities on several simultaneous projectsDemonstrated job commitment including a willingness to work, as well as personal flexibility and adaptability in order to meet client deliverables and timelinesExcellent interpersonal, presentation, oral and written communication skills in order to convey factual and conceptual information to others and promote the interests of CIBC Capital MarketsValues matter to you. This role has an expected salary range of $175,000-$225,000 for the Houston, Texas market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which also may include a discretionary bonus component.
