YOUTH WORKER

We are excited to invite a passionate and experienced part time Youth Worker to join our team! Homes for the Homeless (HFH) is searching for an experienced Youth Worker for our Families w/ Children facility located in the Jamaica area of Queens, NY. As the Youth Worker you will play a pivotal role in our organization, assisting in our afterschool programs which serve children from Kindergarten through High School. The Youth Worker will support the Group Leader with a classroom of 15-20 students in a range of enrichment activities both academic and recreational. This is an excellent position for a college student or professional interested in working with kids outside of the traditional classroom setting. ABOUT HOMES FOR THE HOMELESS:

Homes for the Homeless operates shelters for families experiencing homelessness in NYC. Our family residences are more than just a place to sleep. Families can make the most of their stay through accessing an array of onsite programs. Many of these programs are also available to people living in the local community. Our goal is to have a positive impact so families can thrive long after they leave our shelters.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Ensure the safety of all children in the classroom and on field trips.
• Engage children in art projects, games, performances, sports, and enrichment activities.
• Assist students on homework assignments.
• Help the Group Leader develop lessons, events, holiday parties and performances.
• Attend trainings and staff meetings.
• Serve as a positive role model and work on a team.
• Provide schedule flexibility, including the ability to provide coverage for occasional evening & weekend trips/events as needed.
• Shifts are part-time and occur between Mondays through Fridays, from 2:30/3:00pm to 6:00pm
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS :

• High school diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred
• Experience working with children, especially in a group context.
• Openness to diverse backgrounds, especially among a high-risk population.
• Ability to communicate respectfully and cooperate effectively with your team.
• Some schedule flexibility for coverage.

HOURS:

15 -20 hours /week

HOURLY WAGE:

$19.54 an hour
