Speech Language Pathologist

Speech Language Pathologist

The School Speech-Language Pathologist is responsible for providing speech and language therapy to students who experience difficulties in communication due to various disorders. The SLP will collaborate with teachers, parents, and other school staff to develop individualized treatment plans that support students' academic and social success.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assess and Diagnose Communication Disorders:
    • Conduct speech and language assessments to evaluate students' communication abilities.
    • Diagnose speech, language, fluency, and voice disorders.
    • Create individualized treatment plans based on assessment results.
  2. Provide Therapy and Intervention:
    • Develop and deliver speech therapy sessions tailored to the specific needs of each student.
    • Use evidence-based techniques to improve speech clarity, language development, fluency, and social communication.
    • Assist students with voice disorders, auditory processing issues, and articulation difficulties.
  3. Collaborate with School Staff and Families:
    • Work closely with teachers, special education staff, and administrators to support students' educational goals.
    • Provide guidance and recommendations to parents regarding at-home strategies for reinforcing therapy progress.
    • Participate in IEP (Individualized Education Program) meetings and contribute to students' learning plans.
  4. Document and Track Progress:
    • Maintain detailed records of students' progress, including assessment results, therapy notes, and communication with parents.
    • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of therapy interventions and adjust plans as necessary.
  5. Promote Awareness and Education:
    • Educate teachers and staff about speech and language disorders and provide strategies to support students in the classroom.
    • Advocate for students' needs within the school setting and contribute to creating a supportive environment for all learners.
  6. Ensure Compliance with Regulations:
    • Ensure all therapy services are in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
    • Stay current on best practices, continuing education, and professional development.
