Project Manager – IT Infrastructure

Location: Indianapolis, IN (Hybrid – 3 days/week on-site)

Role Overview

BCforward is seeking an experienced, results-driven Project Manager to lead complex IT infrastructure projects within a regulated enterprise environment. This role is responsible for planning, executing, and delivering technology initiatives that support business operations, including network and server deployments, storage and data center activities, application infrastructure rollouts, platform upgrades, and the IT workstreams required to onboard and integrate newly acquired environments.

The Project Manager will manage single or multiple projects concurrently, report to designated Project Sponsors, and deliver initiatives primarily using Waterfall project management methodology. Some workstreams may call for Agile delivery practices, and familiarity with Agile frameworks is valuable for navigating those situations effectively.

Success in this role requires strong cross-functional leadership, disciplined execution, and the ability to operate in production-critical and regulated environments where uptime, quality, and compliance are non-negotiable. Key responsibilities listed below.

Project Leadership & Delivery

• Lead the planning, execution, monitoring, and closure of IT infrastructure projects from initiation through completion.
• Define and manage project scope, objectives, milestones, schedules, and success criteria in partnership with Program Managers, project sponsors, and stakeholders.
• Ensure projects are delivered on time and within approved scope, maintaining alignment with operational and business priorities.
• Apply structured Waterfall project management practices, including formal change control and documented approvals, as the primary delivery approach.
• Apply Agile delivery practices where iterative execution and incremental value delivery are the better fit, and clearly communicate the rationale for the chosen methodology to sponsors and stakeholders.

IT Infrastructure Delivery

• Oversee infrastructure-focused workstreams, including:
• Network routing and switching (LAN/WAN, VLANs, segmentation, firewalls)
• Server deployments and migrations (physical, virtual, and cloud-based environments)
• Storage solutions (SAN, NAS, backup and recovery infrastructure)
• Data center operations, including upgrades, refresh cycles, and migrations
• Endpoint, identity, and platform infrastructure supporting enterprise applications
• Lead integration of newly onboarded environments, including network and identity consolidation, data and application migrations, and legacy system decommissioning.
• Coordinate cutover planning, hypercare, and operational handoff activities to minimize business disruption during transitions.
• Coordinate technology rollouts and infrastructure refresh activities, ensuring sequencing aligns with business readiness and operational windows.
• Collaborate with IT engineering teams, application owners, security, and operations to ensure seamless project integration.

Risk, Quality & Compliance

• Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate project risks; develop mitigation plans, contingency strategies, and escalation paths.
• Maintain high standards of quality and documentation, ensuring adherence to internal standards, industry best practices, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Support projects operating in regulated environments (e.g., GMP, SOX, HIPAA as applicable), with awareness of validation, change management, and audit expectations.

Stakeholder & Vendor Management

• Serve as the primary point of contact for project sponsors and key stakeholders, maintaining alignment on scope, expectations, and priorities.
• Provide regular, structured status reporting on project progress, milestones, risks, and issues.
• Engage with stakeholders across IT, business, and operations functions to define objectives, success criteria, and acceptance gates.
• Manage and coordinate external vendors, contractors, and service providers to ensure deliverables meet contractual, technical, and quality standards.

Documentation & Continuous Improvement

• Prepare and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including project plans, schedules, risk logs, status reports, and lessons learned.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of project management practices, templates, and delivery standards across the PMO.
• Share lessons learned and reusable assets with peer Project Managers and Program Managers to elevate delivery capability.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of project management experience delivering IT infrastructure projects in enterprise, industrial, or regulated environments.
• Strong understanding of IT infrastructure technologies, including LAN/WAN networking, routing and switching, server platforms, storage (SAN/NAS), virtualization, and data center environments.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects concurrently in a fast-paced, business-critical setting.
• Solid expertise applying Waterfall project management methodology, including formal planning, execution, and change control.
• Demonstrated experience leading integration or migration workstreams across heterogeneous environments, including network, identity, and application consolidation.
• Excellent communication, coordination, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage both technical teams and executive sponsors.
• Experience managing external vendors and contractors against contractual and quality commitments.
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• Required: PMP certification, or active progress toward PMP.

Preferred Qualifications

• Working knowledge of Agile delivery frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, or SAFe), with the ability to support or coordinate Agile workstreams when the project context calls for it.
• PMI-ACP or SAFe certification.
• Experience with construction or facility-related IT projects.
• Experience in pharmaceuticals, life sciences, or healthcare.
