Position Title: GL Accountant
Location: Tysons, VA - on-site with occasional work from home flexibility
Assignment Type: 3-6 month contract before potential conversion
Compensation : $35-40/hr
Benefits : This position is eligible for medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).
Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of maintaining accurate and audit-ready financial records in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Lead and manage the month-end close process, ensuring all activities are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Maintain the general ledger and verify that financial transactions are recorded correctly and completely.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and related supporting documentation.
- Examine invoices to confirm accuracy, appropriate coding, and proper documentation.
- Manage daily accounts payable functions and ensure transactions are processed accurately and efficiently.
- Analyze account balances, financial activity, and variances to support the integrity of the company’s financial records.
- Ensure accounting activities comply with applicable company policies, government contracting requirements, and relevant FAR, CAS, and GAAP standards.
- Collaborate closely with the Controller and Financial Analyst on accounting, reporting, and financial activities.
- Support financial reporting and assist with additional accounting responsibilities as business needs arise.
- Serve as a versatile member of the Finance team, taking on multiple responsibilities across various accounting functions.
- Work independently, exercise sound judgment, and take ownership of assigned responsibilities.
- Contribute to maintaining strong financial controls and ensuring records are accurate, compliant, and prepared for audits.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of accounting experience
- Strong general ledger (GL) experience and proven month-end close experience
- Experience with government contracting accounting
- Knowledge of FAR, CAS, and GAAP requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field
