Youth Development Assistant

PRIMARY FUNCTION:Under the direct supervision and guidance (direct line of sight) of an adult (18 years or older) staff member, implements activities with youth ages 5 -12 years old, in program areas of Education and Career Development, The Arts, Sports Fitness & Recreation, Health & Life Skills, Character & Leadership or Specialized Initiatives.KEY ROLES:Safe and Positive EnvironmentActively engages with Club membersMaintains an organized, clean, and safe program spaceMonitor member use of technologyMonitor member arrival and departureActive supervision/Zone monitoring during all gym and outdoor play activitiesEnsure that Club equipment (play equipment, athletic balls, books, tables, chairs, etc.) is in good working orderSupport members in emergency drills/routinesKnow and practice safety policies including transitions and bathroom usageBe aware of surroundings and environment (uninvited guests, unknown vehicles, etc.) to minimize possible harm, hurt or injuryAssure expectations are clear for all Club membersAssure members feel welcomed and valuedRoutinely scan program area for safety hazards (cleaning chemicals, exposed electrical equipment, excess water, etc.), and address or report findingsAssist Club members with storage of their personal belongings (book bags, coats, lunch boxes, etc.)FunEngage, Inspire & be EnthusiasticPromote laughter, and creativitySupportive RelationshipsRepresents self as a positive role modelKnow the names of Club members, Club members know your nameAcknowledge presence of Club members upon arrival/departureMaintain positive tones and energy with othersOpportunities & ExpectationsEnsures compliance with BGCT policies & proceduresAttend staff meetings and trainingsMaintains daily contact with team, to determine opportunities and challengesAssist members with routine clean up throughout program time, and at the end of program time (no trash on the floor, books and games neatly put away, chairs pushed in, and not materials or supplies on the floor)RecognitionRecognize members who are helping others, achieving or exceeding code of conduct, actively engaged in activities and fostering a positive Club environment cultureFocus on positivesCelebrate and promote acceptanceAcknowledge achievementProvide praise, encouragement, and supportHighlight achievements and positive outcomesGeneral BGCT Expectations:Healthy Behavior Modeling Teaching youth and teens the importance of living an active, healthy lifestyle is a BGCT priority.
