Overview THE OPPORTUNITY The full-time Clinical Faculty will demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching in a clinical setting. The full-time Clinical Faculty will teach 3-4 clinical groups per week/term year-round based on need. The full-time Clinical Faculty will serve as a mentor, role model and facilitator who provides guidance and academic support for students as they learn to care for patients in acute, sub-acute and community facilities. The full-time Clinical Faculty will participate in and contribute to the assessment of curriculum through the clinical evaluation process as well as membership on School of Nursing committees. The full-time Clinical Faculty will utilize a variety of teaching methodologies to teach and guide students in their acquisition of clinical skills, judgment and critical thinking.Rank will be determined based on credentials and experience. Essential Responsibilities Plan clinical experiences for and provide direct supervision and evaluation of nursing students delivering nursing care to an individual or group of individuals.Make self-available to staff at the agenciesAssume complete responsibility and oversight of and for students in clinical facilities.Clarify clinical expectations with students.Clarify student patient/client assignments and expectations with clinical facility staff.Utilize care planning time to direct students to available resources needed for clinical preparation.Assess student knowledge and skill level to ensure safety and optimal care to patients utilizing a variety of teaching and learning pedagogies.Utilize pre- and post- conference to allow students an opportunity to share learned experiences, ensuring clarity of the correlation between weekly theory content with clinical objectives and experiences.Provide formative and summative evaluative feedback of clinical performance.Utilize the course management system to communicate with studentsCommunicate with School of Nursing theory faculty and/or administration of any student or agency concerns or issues.Initiate and implement Student Performance Improvement Plans as needed for student remediation.Maintain accurate documentation related to students’ issues or concerns in the clinical setting.Orient and maintain current knowledge related to agency/clinical policies, procedures, and expectations with the assistance of the agency/clinical personnel.Remain in compliance with all clinical health requirements.Comply with all applicable regulatory rules and standards. Qualifications Required:Master’s Degree or higher in NursingUnencumbered Illinois License or the ability to get an Illinois LicenseMinimum of 2 years of experience working as an RN in a related clinical area within the past 5 yearsExcellent written and oral communication skills with high level of initiative and prudent clinical judgmentPreferred:1-3 years of experience teaching BSN undergraduate nursing students in either theory or clinicalNLU Inclusion Statement:National Louis University is deeply committed to serving its community, advancing access and equity, and ensuring that all individuals are welcomed and valued.
