Specialist, Software Engineer (IT Application Development - Test Automation)

Nationwide’s Technology team is seeking a Software Engineer to deliver secure technology solutions for a Fortune 100 company. The role is primarily remote with preference for candidates able to work from Nationwide’s Columbus, OH office with optional hybrid arrangements. Job Description Summary As a Software Engineer you will craft new software applications or modify and support existing applications, analyzing, coding, configuring, testing, debugging, documenting, and maintaining solutions to meet business partner needs. Key Responsibilities Analyze, develop, test, debug, document, and deploy software according to standards in an agile environment. Apply secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to protect data and technology solutions. Use DevSecOps practices, tooling, and techniques. Drive continuous improvement and learning through ongoing training, practice, and innovation. Manage medium to large project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables proactively. Other responsibilities as assigned. Reporting Relationships Reports to a Technology Manager/Director. Typical Skills and Experiences Education: Completion of undergraduate studies in computer science, information systems, or related field. Technology experience or non-traditional technology certificates may substitute. Experience: Four or more years of analysis and technology experience. Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills: Proficiency in one or more programming languages (Java, C++, Python, JavaScript). Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle. Proven ability to tackle complex business and development problems. Ability to thrive in a team environment. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus.
