Specialist, Software Engineer (Test Automation Developer)

Nationwide’s Technology team is looking for a Test Automation Developer (TAD) and a Software Engineer to work in a hybrid schedule with two days in‑office at our Columbus, Ohio office. Candidates must be based within a commutable distance to Columbus and are unable to be sponsored for work authorization. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, execute, and maintain automated and manual test cases aligned with Agile and Scrum practices. Collaborate with developers, business analysts, product owners, and fellow testers to understand requirements, define test scenarios, and validate functionality based on user stories and acceptance criteria. Perform functional, integration, regression, backend data validation, and performance testing to ensure product quality and stability. Create and maintain automated test scripts, analyze test results, document defects, and support defect resolution with development teams. Participate actively in Agile ceremonies: sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand‑ups, and retrospectives. Identify opportunities to enhance testing processes, automation coverage, and overall quality practices. Apply secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle as part of the software engineering role. Analyze, code, configure, test, debug, document, and maintain applications, using secure coding principles and DevSecOps practices. Manage medium‑to‑large project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables proactively. Skills & Qualifications Strong knowledge of software testing principles and Agile/Scrum frameworks. Experience with test management and defect tracking tools (e.g., JIRA, Spira). Experience developing and maintaining automated test scripts using tools such as Ruby and/or Tosca. Understanding of API, UI, integration, and backend data testing. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing best practices. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Experience with Guidewire PolicyCenter and Personal Lines insurance products is preferred. Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Java, C++, Python, or JavaScript. Four or more years of analysis and technology experience (or equivalent by non‑traditional education).
