Direct Support Professional (DSP) - Specialized Services

Role Summary

The Direct Support Professional - Specialized Services provides individualized, community-based support to an adult with an intellectual disability or Autism Spectrum Disorder . Working under the direction of the Program Coordinator , this role is part of a 24/7 support team serving a high-needs individual living in one of several community settings, including:

• Group Home
• Independent housing
• Family Home
• 7AM-3PM, 3PM-11PM and 11PM-7AM

Key Responsibilities

1. Direct Support & Daily Services

• Provide respectful, friendly, and professional support that honors client choice.
• Facilitate conversations and activities aligned with the individual's interests.
• Offer companionship, emotional support, and supervision to ensure safety.
• Follow all Medicaid Specialized Services regulations.
• Implement the individual's treatment plan to deliver meaningful, goal-driven supports.

Community & Daily Living Support

• Advocate for the individual with family, peers, and community members.
• Connect the individual to community resources and opportunities.
• Support participation in community events and activities.
• Teach and model safety skills in home and community environments.
• Teach and model appropriate social and community behavior.

Health & Wellness Support

• Monitor emotional and physical well-being.
• Administer medications as appropriate.
• Assist with personal care tasks as needed.
• Attend medical appointments and ensure follow-up steps are completed.
• Provide transportation to appointments, activities, and community events.
• Collaborate with clinical staff to support mental health needs.

Safety & Compliance

• Develop and follow safety plans for community outings.
• Apply Vermont public safety best practices.
• Support adherence to court conditions of release and/or Act 248 orders when applicable.

2. Documentation & Record Keeping

• Collect required data per the individual's ISA and behavior support plans.
• Complete all required Developmental Services and agency documentation, including:
  • Daily and weekly timesheets
  • Expense sheets
  • Monthly documentation
• Submit all paperwork accurately and on time.

3. Team Collaboration & Communication

• Share relevant information with team members in a confidential, professional manner.
• Serve as an advocate and liaison for the individual, the Developmental Services Division, and UCS.
• Participate actively in team meetings, care plan discussions, and collaborative problem-solving.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Required: High School Diploma or equivalent
• Preferred:
  • Direct service experience
  • Experience supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities

Skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook for internal communication.

Licenses & Certifications

• Valid Driver's License
• Reliable transportation for occasional client transport
• CPR certification
