Location NY – Bridgehampton – Bridgehampton Commons – 3438 Classification Temporary Job Summary A Barnes & Noble bookstore is a gathering place for readers and the community. As a Bookseller, you are an integral member of the bookselling team at the heart of our stores. You welcome customers in a cheerful and helpful way by saying hello, answering questions, and consistently going out of your way to connect readers with the right titles and products. Equally, you are an essential part of the bookstore team in maintaining the attractive presentation of the store and in ensuring its efficient running. You help unpack and shelve deliveries and tidy displays. You work the registers quickly and friendly, ensuring customers receive highly professional service. Fill scheduling gaps when possible, being flexible and responsive to store needs – open early mornings to late evenings daily, including weekends and most holidays. Operational Competencies Use varied technology (registers, computers, tablets, programs) comfortably and efficiently. Develop strong merchandising skills for book presentation and store cleanliness. Use visual merchandising skills to maintain presentation in gifting, toys, and other product categories. Run a register competently to serve customers quickly and reliably. Support receipt and unpacking of deliveries, and efficient and accurate shelving. Locate books and other products using knowledge, colleagues, BookMaster, and other tools. Support the café team willingly and effectively when needed. Understand loss prevention procedures and de-escalation techniques; identify theft, spot problematic behavior, and seek support. Physical Requirements Work requires prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting, and walking. You may be called to work in other stores as needed to support the wider cluster. Career Development Build book knowledge across fiction, nonfiction, and children’s titles. Use this knowledge to maintain sections and present books attractively. Make effective book recommendations throughout varied sections. Support key sales objectives such as Monthly Picks, Book of the Year, Membership, preorders, etc. Expand expertise in educational toys and games, specialty games, hobby and collectibles, music, movies, newsstand, and other areas. Maintain all sections and backstock effectively, assisting customers with their shopping. Support key sales objectives for new releases and product launches.
