Registered Nurse (RN) - Med Surg

Location: Nashville, TN

General Information

• Unit Name: 12 Tower
• Number of Beds: 36
• Patient Ratios: 1:4 / 1:5
• Unit Staffing Description: Secretary available every day; PRN techs
• Type of Equipment: PD Cyclers, Welch Allyn VS Carts, Hoyer Lift, Broda Chairs, Alaris IV Pumps
• Documentation System: Meditech
• Scheduling Requirements: 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week block
• Floating Policy: Will float over core staff
• Patient Experience Requirements: Bedside shift report, safety checks every 1-2 hours, communication and responsiveness focus
• Required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS

Job Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Med Surg unit will be responsible for:

• Performing basic patient assessments and providing general care
• Managing wounds, tracheostomies, ostomies, drains, and chest tubes
• Assisting with post-operative procedures including amputations, oral surgeries, ostomies, and wound vacs
• Monitoring and administering medications as per protocols
• Communicating effectively with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams
• Implementing fall prevention and infection control measures

Job Requirements

• Ability to provide direct patient care and respond to medical emergencies
• Experience with patients requiring dialysis or PCA pumps is preferred
• Familiarity with basic medical equipment
• Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills in a fast-paced environment

Dress Code

Scrubs in navy, blue, white, black, gray, or ceil blue are required.
