Social Services Advocate Supervisor - PDD North Region

Position Overview The Public Defender Division of CPCS is seeking applicants for the position of Social Services Advocate Supervisor for the state’s North Region, covering Middlesex and Essex Counties (Framingham, Lowell, Malden, Lawrence, Salem). The SSA Supervisor will assist in the hiring, supervision, and training of Social Service Advocates, collaborate with attorneys and CPCS management, and carry a reduced client caseload. Qualifications Minimum Entrance Requirements Master’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related field Three (or more) years of experience providing social services, including clinical assessments and community referrals Insured, reliable transportation, valid Massachusetts driver’s license, and access to home internet sufficient for remote work Preferred Social Work Licensure (LICSW) and at least one year of supervisory experience Skills and Qualifications Experience with culturally diverse families and individuals Knowledge of factors influencing behavior and understanding of systemic barriers such as racism and poverty Client interviewing, assessment, case management, and treatment planning skills Knowledge of public and private social service systems and resources Effective written and oral communication and ability to work independently and as part of a team Strong interpersonal, management, leadership, and supervisory skills Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and work occasional evenings or weekends Knowledge of criminal legal system and anticipating client needs in that context Ability to supervise master‑level social workers for LICSW licensure (preferred) Strong writing and editing abilities, willingness to develop training materials Commitment to training CPCS Social Services Advocates and advancing holistic practice Bilingual abilities a plus Writing Sample Requirement – Submit a redacted biopsychosocial assessment, client history, or other relevant sample. Responsibilities Supervisory Duties Regular one‑on‑one and group meetings with supervisees In‑field supervision including client interviews, jail visits, and court testimony Oversee development of community resource information and clinical research data Collect, monitor, and analyze caseload statistics Respond to attorneys’ consultation requests; collaborate on performance evaluations Assist in hiring new staff (review applications, interview, reference checks) Provide backup coverage for SSA referrals as needed Other duties as assigned Training Duties Provide orientation and ongoing training to new SSA hires Develop, enhance, and deliver training programs for staff and attorneys Assist in training CPCS staff attorneys Other duties as assigned Direct Client Duties Maintain close contact with clients throughout their case Conduct brief and in‑depth client interviews with cultural humility Perform needs assessments, develop treatment or service plans, refer clients, and connect them to programs Know statewide and local programs; collaborate with community services Collaborate with defense counsel on strategies and disposal options Prepare and present courtroom testimony and persuasive written advocacy for sentencing Advocate for clients in a client‑directed practice Other duties as assigned Salary 80,598.00 – 118,361.00 Yearly EEO Statement The Committee for Public Counsel Services (CPCS) is an equal‑opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, ethnicity, sex, disability, religion, age, veteran or military status, genetic information, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
