Social Services Advocate Supervisor - PDD South Region

The Public Defender Division (PDD) of the Committee for Public Counsel Services (CPCS) is seeking a Social Services Advocate Supervisor to lead and supervise a team of Social Services Advocates in the South Region, covering Plymouth, Bristol, and Barnstable Counties. The role includes hiring, training, supervising staff, and maintaining a reduced client caseload. Position Overview The SSA Supervisor works under the Director of Social Services Advocates and collaborates with attorneys, working on cases from arraignment through post‑conviction. Responsibilities include client interviews, needs assessments, treatment planning, and courtroom testimony. The supervisor will also coordinate with community resources and lead the development of training programs for staff. Responsibilities Regular one‑on‑one and group supervision with staff. In‑field supervision during client interviews, jail visits, and in‑court appearances. Oversee community resource development and clinical research data. Monitor and analyze caseload statistics. Respond to attorney consultation requests. Collaborate on annual performance evaluations. Assist in hiring and interviewing new staff. Provide backup coverage for SSA referrals. Other duties as assigned. Training duties include: Orientation and ongoing training for new SSA hires. Developing and enhancing training programs. Training CPCS staff attorneys. Other duties as assigned. Client duties include: Maintain close client contact throughout the case. Conduct brief and in‑depth interviews with cultural humility. Perform needs assessments and develop treatment plans. Connect clients with service providers. Collaborate with defense counsel on strategy. Prepare courtroom testimony and written advocacy statements. Advocate for best outcomes in client‑directed practice. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Master’s degree in social work, psychology, or related field. Minimum 3 years of experience providing social services, clinical assessments, community referrals. Insured, reliable transportation and valid MA driver’s license. Home internet access sufficient for remote work. Social Work Licensure (LICSW) preferred. At least one year of supervisory experience preferred. Experience with diverse populations and cultural competence. Knowledge of social, psychological, economic, legal, medical factors influencing behavior. Understanding of systemic barriers such as racism and poverty. Skills: client interviewing, assessment, case management, treatment planning. Knowledge of public and private social services systems. Effective oral and written communication. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong organizational and supervisory skills. Ability to supervise master level social workers for LICSW licensure preferred. Strong writing and editing abilities. Commitment to training and development of CPCS Social Services Advocates. Bilingual abilities are a plus. Please submit a writing sample with your application.
