Job Description

Lead real estate lending strategy, drive mortgage growth, and help deliver an exceptional member experience.

We are seeking an experienced real estate lending leader to guide the strategy, growth, and overall performance of a credit union’s Real Estate Lending Department . Reporting to the Chief Lending Officer, this position leads mortgage production, profitability, operational excellence, and risk management while aligning the department’s work with the credit union’s broader strategic objectives.

What You’ll Do

• Own the strategy and performance of the real estate lending portfolio, including production goals, profitability, secondary market strategy, and long term growth initiatives. Report results, trends, and recommendations to executive leadership.
• Evaluate existing mortgage products and procedures and implement changes as needed. Ensure regulatory compliance and sound risk management, including adherence to federal and state mortgage regulations.
• Develop and execute business development strategies to increase mortgage volume. Build partnerships with real estate agents, builders, and community organizations, and represent the credit union in the market as the face of real estate lending.
• Serve as the secondary mortgage underwriter, providing support and continuity during increased loan volume, employee absences, or other periods of high demand.
• Lead and develop the mortgage lending team, ensuring staff remain knowledgeable about the credit union’s mortgage products and rates as well as those in the broader industry.
• Maintain professional, timely, personalized service to members and associates, including responding to messages and correspondence within two hours.
• Keep management informed of key departmental operational issues and ensure mortgage lending activities follow established policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Observe employee performance, exchange feedback within five working days following each quarter, and complete performance reviews within prescribed timeframes.

Qualifications

What You Bring

• 8+ years of similar or related experience.
• A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of the secondary mortgage market and experience with first and second mortgage residential real estate lending.
• Working knowledge of regulations affecting mortgage lending.
• Strong communication and management skills.
• Ability to build relationships, resolve initial conflicts, gain cooperation, and handle confidential discussions with discretion, diplomacy, and tact.
