Chief Engineer (Aerospace)

Chief Engineer for Strategic Systems The Chief Engineer for Strategic Systems is an autonomous technical leader responsible for the end‑to‑end mission success of solid rocket propulsion system programs by managing large multidisciplinary teams, overseeing complex systems engineering processes, and aligning technical execution with budgetary and schedule requirements. The position reports to the Director of Engineering and is part of the Strategic Systems department. Responsibilities Direct the end‑to‑end technical lifecycle of the program by leading cross‑functional teams through rigorous design reviews and qualification milestones, ensuring producibility, compliance with data requirements, and balanced cost and schedule. Maintain a rigorous focus on the critical path, proactively deconflict resources, and drive schedule performance through aggressive task span‑time management and alternative execution strategies. Establish and maintain lean technical scope baselines by eliminating contingency budgeting, monitoring cost performance indices (CPI), and challenging budget change requests to preserve management reserves. Serve as the primary technical spokesperson for the program, managing internal and external stakeholder relationships, presenting programmatic material, cultivating new business, and ensuring customer requests remain within authorized scope. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related discipline. 15 years of experience in solid rocket propulsion. Demonstrated leadership of cross‑functional teams and end‑to‑end program management. Experience establishing and maintaining lean technical scope baselines, monitoring CPI, and managing budget change requests. Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance (requires U.S. citizenship). Current DoD Secret Security clearance is preferred. Preferred Qualifications At least four years of experience leading solid rocket propulsion system projects with multi‑disciplinary teams of no less than ten people. Current DoD Secret Security clearance. Travel, Physical and Government Mandated Requirements Travel up to 25%, including potential overnight stays at test facilities.
