Job Title: Sr. Optical Engineer

Location: Burlington, MA

The hourly rate for this position is expected to be between $56.97 - $71.20 per hour, depending on geographic location, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

Employment Type: Temporary, approximately 3 months (through December 2026)
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM

Job Summary:

• Lead optical engineering efforts for a second prototype build of ophthalmic medical devices
• Provide technical guidance to the Optical Technician and broader engineering team
• Contribute to component selection and system design for diagnostic/therapeutic devices
• Develop work instructions, testing procedures, and validation protocols
• Design production tooling and test fixtures for performance and reliability
• Collaborate cross-functionally with hardware, software, mechanical, and applied research teams
• Support transition of products from prototype through manufacturing handoff

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Biomedical Engineering, or related STEM field
• Minimum 5 years of experience in optical engineering or photonics
• Strong optical design, analysis, and testing experience
• Experience supporting product development from prototype through manufacturing
• Mechanical design experience (CAD, SolidWorks) a plus
• Familiarity with optical design tools (e.g., Zemax) preferred
• Experience in regulated environments (FDA QSR, ISO 13485) strongly preferred
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills
• Self-starter capable of working autonomously in a lab environment
