Onsite Project Lead — Commercial Solar PV (Decommissioning & Special Projects)

Location: Southern California (company vehicle provided) — Frequent nationwide travel

Compensation: $35–$45 / hour DOE

Employment Type: Full-time

We are a nationwide electrical and solar PV contractor specializing in commercial PV decommissioning, maintenance, and special projects (carport, rooftop, and ground-mounted). We deliver safe, reliable field work for owners and asset managers across the country.

Position Summary

The Onsite Project Lead is a hands-on field supervisor based in Southern California who leads crew operations on commercial PV decommissioning, maintenance, and special projects. This role manages site logistics, operates heavy equipment, ensures quality and safety, and provides daily reporting to the Project Manager / VP of Operations. Extensive nationwide travel is required; the company provides a vehicle, phone, laptop, specialized PV test equipment, and PPE. Candidates must supply basic personal hand tools.

Key Responsibilities

•Lead and supervise onsite field crews; assign tasks, verify workmanship, and enforce safety practices.

•Operate forklifts and telehandlers for material handling and logistics.

•Coordinate site logistics: scrap bin swaps, dumpster management, temporary labor, haulers, and vendors.

•Oversee module removal/reinstall, cable pulls, equipment swaps, and other decommissioning or maintenance tasks as required.

•Produce daily progress reports with photos; communicate status updates and next-day objectives to Project Manager / VP of Operations.

•Maintain timesheets, equipment checklists, material logs, and site documentation.

•Conduct toolbox talks and ensure consistent PPE use and adherence to safety procedures.

•Identify, document, and escalate issues affecting schedule, safety, or cost.

•Maintain and care for company‐issued equipment and tools.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of commercial solar PV or heavy electrical field experience (decommissioning/maintenance preferred).

• Proven experience supervising onsite crews and coordinating site logistics.

• Familiarity with carport, rooftop, and ground-mounted PV systems.

• Experience operating forklifts and telehandlers (certifications preferred; training

may be available).

• Strong written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated ability to prepare

concise daily reports with photos.

• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel extensively nationwide.

• Physically able to work at heights and perform manual tasks in outdoor

environments.

• Must provide basic personal hand tools.

• OSHA 10 or 30, First Aid/CPR certification.

• Experience with field reporting platforms (e.g., Procore, Field wire, Service Fusion, SolarGrade, Google Drive, OneDrive). Not required, but highly reccommended.

• Familiarity with inverters, combiner boxes, and DC/AC wiring practices relevant to

maintenance and decommissioning.
