Commercial Real Estate Paralegal

Day Pitney is seeking a Commercial Real Estate Paralegal to support the real estate practice. Successful candidate must be a self-starter and proactive team player who is able to work in a fast-paced environment. This candidate will have 3+ years' experience in this or a similar role and must be detail-oriented and possess strong organizational and communication skills. Job Responsibilities: Draft and review closing documents, including various forms of mortgage deeds, notes, assignments, releases, affidavits, estoppels, closing checklists, bills of sale, escrow agreements, side letters, agreements, mortgage modifications, purchase and sale agreements, UCC financing statements, easements, conveyance tax statements, powers of attorney and other documents relative to a particular real estate closing. Draft and review documents related to the title to the real property, including title objection letters, title insurance commitments and reports, legal descriptions, owner and loan title insurance policies and endorsements. Calculate and pro-rate multiple types of adjustments and closing costs, including preparation of adjustment sheets and settlement and loan closing statements. Communicate with clients, attorneys, bank and title company representatives, surveyors, real estate and insurance agents, etc. regarding items required for closing. Responsible for processing real estate closing from the date the firm receives a signed real estate contract or loan sheet to finalizing post-closing paperwork. Order and review of title commitments, title documents, surveys, condominium estoppels, tax & lien searches, zoning reports, etc., including preparation of related summaries and abstracts. Preparation of title abstracts, review of surveys, and review of zoning reports Preparation of the closing file, coordinating execution of documents and review thereof for proper execution, including taking acknowledgements, and attendance at closing, if required. Attend to post-closing matters, including preparation of closing binders, file organization, preparation of documents for recording/filing, coordinate obtaining and providing outstanding closing items. Job Requirements: Bachelor's Degree (with ABA approved paralegal certificate preferred). Minimum 3 - 5 years commercial real estate paralegal experience, preferably in a law firm setting, an in-house legal department or title company. Technical proficiency with WORD, Excel, virtual files, iManage, Webex and Hot Docs. Excellent communication skills, oral and written. Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects with minimal supervision. Excellent research and analytical skills. Effective interpersonal and team working skills and an ability to communicate effectively with attorneys, professional staff and peers. This position offers a compensation range of $95,000 to $100,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, and qualifications. Staff may also be eligible for discretionary year-end bonuses and annual merit-based increases.
