OR Register Nurse - First Assist, Clackamas (40 hrs, day)

Job Summary Provides assistance to the surgical team during the intra‑operative phase of surgical care for the Northwest Surgical Services region. Works in collaboration with the surgeon and health care team in the performance of surgical procedures, including assessment, planning, directing, providing and evaluating advanced nursing care. All RNFAs will participate in a regional on‑call rotation to provide surgical assistance for elective, emergent and urgent surgical cases. Responsibilities Assist the surgical team during intra‑operative phase of surgical care, including pre‑operative assessment and evaluation, intra‑operative technical assistance according to AORN standards, and post‑operative patient evaluation. Perform RNFA responsibilities in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Oregon, institutional policies and procedures of Kaiser Permanente and the AORN Position Statement on RN First Assistants. Provide knowledge‑based technical assistance during operative procedures: using instruments and medical devices, providing exposure, handling and/or cutting tissue, providing hemostasis, clamping, cutting, and ligating tissue as directed by the surgeon, and suturing as directed by the surgeon. Assist anesthesia during induction and participate in the pre‑operative briefing / time‑out process. Assist in patient positioning, preparation (prepping, catheterization, shaving), and draping; set up ESU, lights, suction for the sterile field. Monitor sterile field, manage free‑counted items, and observe for breaks in sterile technique. Assist with room preparation, instrument handling, wound dressing, securing drainage tubes, equipment setup, and room tear‑down and turnover. Provide pre‑ and post‑operative patient education as designated, review chart for pertinent data, and maintain a safe environment to promote operating efficiency. Qualifications Minimum two (2) years peri‑operative scrubbing and circulating experience in a KP OR or one (1) year experience as an RNFA. Certification of completion from an AORN‑recognized RNFA course. Successful completion of an RNFA program that meets AORN Recommended Education Standards for RNFA and criteria for the CB.PMN acceptance program. Registered Nurse License (Oregon). Nurse Operating Room Certificate. Basic Life Support certification. Maintain CNOR and RN licensure with the required amount of continuing education. Meets all qualifications of an RNFA as outlined in the AORN Position Statement. Preferred Qualifications Minimum two (2) years practice as an RNFA. CRNFA certification (preferred).
