Join us.Job DescriptionAECOM has a position available for a Mechanical Engineer to support our team addressing the most challenging engineering tasks in power generation. AECOM's broad technical capabilities, global footprint and experience in executing large scale projects uniquely position us to lead in traditional steam, thermal power generation and advanced nuclear technologies. This includes being a part of the first-of-a-kind program with AECOM partners advancing the innovative stellarator technology to the world.The position is an opportunity to directly work in the design of fusion island support components and systems. The engineer will work primarily at the technology developer's office, collaborating closely with their team.The successful candidate will possess a high level of understanding and experience in mechanical engineering design and technology principles for process/mechanical and generation projects, and is expected to be a detail-oriented, experienced engineer capable of making decisions independently.The responsibilities of this role also include, but may not be limited to, the following:Responsible for the mechanical engineering design work on assigned projectsServe as lead engineer on all size projects maintaining responsibility for deliverable developmentCoordination with the mechanical piping design team to direct completion of engineering drawings.Multi-discipline collaboration on the development of equipment general arrangements, P&ID’s, isometrics, asset and tie-in lists, orthographic, etc.Provides technical expertise for risk assessments, due diligence and other studies presenting complex technical solutions to clients.Generate applicable mechanical engineering deliverables to support all phases of scope development – Feasibility through Detail DesignDevelop construction and equipment specifications and material requisitionsHome office support of projects during construction, start-up, and commissioningPerforms quality control reviews of work developed by othersParticipate in project and client meetingsInteract with vendors, regulatory agencies and contractorsAssist with internal and external presentationsOccasional travel to client and/or project sitesQualificationsMinimum Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering6 years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering for industrial or power generation projectsPreferred Qualifications:Professional Engineering licensure10+ years of experience preferred2+ yrs experience as project technical mechanical leadDemonstrated experience with specifying mechanical equipment (e.g. rotating equipment, tanks, pumps, pressure vessels, heat exchanges)Familiarity with diverse metallurgyDemonstrated experience with engineering software packages: Caesar II, Pipe-Flo (or other hydraulic modeling application), AspenTech applications and/or Applied Flow Technology applicationsExperience with nuclear power generation and thermal power generationExperience executing work in 3D model environments and collaborative model environments (e.g. Navisworks, ACC)Experience with AutoCAD Plant3D Smart P&ID’sStrong knowledge of piping specifications and pipe stress analysisStrong experience leveraging laser scan or other data sets to inform design developmentKnowledge of typical stakeholders and be able to anticipate data requests and expectationsDemonstrated experience in participating complex, multi-discipline programs/projects and CAD teamsComprehensive knowledge of industry (incl safety) standards (e.g. API, ASME)Additional InformationSponsorship is not available for this role.This role would be contingent on project start.At AECOM, we are committed to maintaining a secure and trustworthy recruitment process and take any fraudulent hiring activity seriously.
