Overview Delaware's Attorney General, the State's chief law enforcement officer, has a broad responsibility to combat crime, uphold civil rights, safeguard families, fight fraud, and protect consumers in the First State. Role Summary The Criminal Division seeks a Legal Administrative Specialist to provide administrative support to Deputy Attorneys General prosecuting crimes in the Misdemeanor Trial Unit (Court of Common Pleas) in Sussex County. Duties include setting up files, running criminal record checks, typing, requesting reports, answering discovery, managing calendars, filing documents, and preparing subpoena lists. The position also serves as backup coverage for the main Criminal Division Receptionist. Responsibilities Apply agency laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures in maintaining and processing agency information. Serve as a liaison with the public, clients, agency staff, and others to exchange information and explain agency services, laws, rules, and procedures. Assure effective coordination of operational functions for assigned unit/attorneys. Arrange delivery of legal paperwork. Type correspondence and legal paperwork. Schedule, coordinate, and confirm court dates, appointments, interviews, intakes, and meetings. Establish tracking and monitoring systems and conduct follow‑up to ensure timely resolution of matters. Maintain and control data and filing systems to ensure effective, accurate, and easily retrievable legal documentation. Set up files, run criminal record checks, request reports, and manage discovery documentation. Handle multiple tasks in a fast‑paced work environment with strong attention to detail. Interact professionally with members of the public, including victims, defendants, and defense attorneys, and answer telephones accurately. Qualifications – Legal Administrative Specialist I Possession of an associate’s degree or higher. Knowledge of legal terminology. One year of experience coordinating office activities, tracking workflow, composing meeting notes, directing clients/customers, explaining services, and maintaining filing/record systems. One year of experience in document processing, reviewing records for completeness, interpreting information, and tracking activities. One year of experience using standard computer software for word processing, spreadsheets, or databases. Six months of experience entering, updating, modifying, deleting, retrieving, and reporting data in an automated information system. Knowledge of legal terminology (repeated). Qualifications – Legal Administrative Specialist II Possession of a Bachelor’s degree or higher. Three years of experience coordinating office activities, tracking workflow, composing meeting notes, directing clients/customers, explaining services, and maintaining filing/record systems. Three years of experience in document processing, as above. Three years of experience using standard computer software for word processing, spreadsheets, or databases. Three years of experience using an automated information system for data entry, update, modification, deletion, retrieval, and reporting. Six months of experience in legal terminology. Six months of experience interpreting laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures. Qualifications – Legal Administrative Specialist III Possession of a Bachelor’s degree or higher. Two years of experience coordinating office activities, tracking workflow, composing meeting notes, directing clients/customers, explaining services, and maintaining filing/record systems. Two years of experience in document processing, reviewing records for completeness, interpreting information, and tracking activities. Two years of experience using standard computer software. Two years of experience using an automated information system for data entry, update, modification, deletion, retrieval, and reporting. Preparation of legal documents. Interpretation of laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures. Five years of employment with the Department of Justice in a similar capacity (alternative pathway). Six years of experience coordinating office activities, document processing, using standard software, and using an automated information system. Four years of experience preparing legal documents. Four years of experience interpreting laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures. Conditions of Hire Employment is contingent upon satisfactory background checks.
