Exempt Director of Benefits
Location: Houston, TX Hybrid
Pay Rate: Starting at $69.00/hour
Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Dean's Professional Services is seeking an experienced Director of Benefits to provide senior-level leadership for a large, complex healthcare organization in Houston. This high-impact role is ideal for a strategic professional who can seamlessly step in, assess current programs, and lead both the strategic direction and day-to-day operations of a comprehensive benefits portfolio.
This opportunity offers direct exposure to executive leadership and the ability to influence benefits strategy, vendor partnerships, and employee experience across a dynamic healthcare environment.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the full scope of benefits programs, including health & welfare and retirement offerings
- Evaluate and optimize current benefits strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and compliance requirements
- Oversee medical, dental, vision, and wellness programs, including vendor performance and contract management
- Manage retirement programs such as 401(k), pension plans, and deferred compensation offerings
- Serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership on benefits structure, cost containment, and program effectiveness
- Lead cross-functional collaboration with HR, finance, and leadership teams
- Direct and manage complex RFP processes, including vendor selection, negotiations, and implementation
- Oversee the full lifecycle of annual enrollment, including communication strategy, employee engagement, system optimization, and post-enrollment auditing
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and industry regulations, particularly within the healthcare sector
- Identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement across total rewards programs
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources, or related field required (Master's preferred)
- 10+ years of progressive experience managing comprehensive benefits programs in large or complex organizations
- Strong expertise in health & welfare plans, retirement programs, and total rewards strategy
- Demonstrated experience leading benefits RFP processes and vendor negotiations
- Proven success managing annual enrollment strategy and execution
- Professional certifications such as CBP or CEBS strongly preferred
- Healthcare industry experience highly preferred
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to present to and influence executive leadership
