Shining Mountain Waldorf School, founded in 1983, is an accredited Pre-K-12 nonprofit Waldorf independent school located in Boulder, Colorado on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. We are recognized for our academic depth, experiential learning, artistic integration, wilderness experiences, and place-based, innovative program. Our school is about an hour’s drive to Denver and Rocky Mountain National Park. We are close to world-class hiking, skiing, and outdoor recreation. A college town, Boulder is home to the University of Colorado and Naropa University, as well as numerous local organizations that provide a rich variety of arts, lectures, and workshops. Boulder is known for its natural beauty, environmental initiatives, sustainable agriculture, farm-to-table dining, and more than 300 days of sunshine each year.

Shining Mountain Waldorf School (SMWS) is at an exciting point in its 40 year history. We have recently built a new state of the art high school campus, adjacent to the existing lower school campus. The school has been deeply engaged in a revisioning process to rediscover our unique, contemporary identity and to identify several capstone pilot program opportunities. 

Position Summary

This position is a highly visible position in our community, and oversees all policies, practices and communication related to campus operations and health and safety. This position manages and represents the operations of our school community, working closely with the faculty and staff, parents, students, visitors, and volunteers. The Campus Operations Director facilitates daily school life on and off campus in accordance with established policies and in response to immediate needs and situations. The Campus Operations Director will supervise the lower school office staff to receive students and support parents with health incidents and campus information. Additionally, this position will work directly with teachers to facilitate field trips, manage faculty substitution needs, and oversee internal and external calendaring.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

• Manage all safety compliance, campus visitor background checks, campus safety, weather procedures, first aid, emergency procedures, drill checklists, school closure procedures, and chair risk and safety committee meetings
• Manage process to update safety manuals and handbooks
• Update various school and student forms - including back to school forms
• Communicate and monitor safety practices, along with School Director
• Represent the school in community and professional meetings as required, and other agencies and the government
• Receive and manage parent issues and direct parents to appropriate individuals
• Interface with vendors for the school:
• Coordinate space rentals
• Point of contact for service providers 
• Point of contact for health and facilities issues
• Ensure development and implementation of administrative policies, procedures and programs focused on school operations
• In coordination with the School Director and Business Director, participate in budget planning 
• As supervisor of the office staff, be responsible for the selection, hiring, training, daily work and timesheet approval, and annual evaluation of staff
• Supervise the facility and grounds department and support prioritizing projects.
• Coordinate with our athletic director and program managers around facilities use and safety compliance
• Ensure compliance with applicable regulations of the State Board of Education and other private school and day care regulators
• Ensure compliance with the Health department; legal requirements for Colorado immunization policy, interface for Boulder County Department of Health, Colorado Department of Health and the Environment
• Coordinate on technology needs and case resolution with consulting tech team
• Organize substitution when teachers are ill or have planned absences.
• Oversee scheduling for all school parent teacher conference days
• Point of contact and liaison with neighborhood residents as needed
• Work collaboratively with the Senior Leadership Administration Team
• Participate in school functions
• Manage school vehicle usage, including proper driver credentials and insurance

  Education and Qualifications 

• Bachelor's Degree preferred
• Proven data management, database utility, and tracking/reporting skills - familiarity withVeracross, Google platform, School Pass and similar programs
• Familiar with or interested in working with a Waldorf School culture which values each human being and strives for respectful engagement in community life 
• Understand and contribute to clear organizational practices and proper function of health and safety practices consistent with the duty of care held by a school 
• Well-organized; capable of managing the office through seasonal demands and familiar with platforms and software which support data management and communication for organizations and facilities 
• Clear and effective communication 
• Works well with people; able to interface with various constituencies
• Supervises others in a professional manner
• Ability to create solutions for administrative matters and develop workable administrative structures to support school
• Professional experience with emphasis in school safety procedures, operational procedures and data management 

Work Setting

• General office environment
• Active outdoor presence - communicating with school community, visiting classrooms and campus buildings, walking 
• Occasional weekend and evening hours 

Hours 

• This is a full time salary, twelve month position 
• Hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 to 4:00
• Occasional weekend and evening hours will be needed

Salary and Benefits

• Full Time Salary - starting at $60,000/yr
• This is a year round full time Administrative position
• Personal Time off - up to 3 weeks per year
• Sick Time - up to 48 hours per calendar year 
• Staff Holidays - up to 15 days per school year
