Posting Name Speech Language Pathologist Location LCSD SPED/Special Programs Posting Begin Date 04/22/2026 Posting End Date N/A Full Time Yes Job Category Certified Application Schedule N/A Licensed Position Yes Speech Language Pathologist Job purpose: In keeping with a tradition of excellence, an SLP in the Lauderdale County School District is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and providing intervention for students with speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders that impact educational performance. This position supports student access to the general education curriculum by developing and implementing individualized therapy plans in accordance with federal and state regulations, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The Speech Language Pathologist collaborates with teachers, administrators, parents, and other service providers to ensure appropriate services are delivered, student progress is monitored, and all documentation and compliance requirements are met. The goal of this position is to enhance students' communication skills to support academic achievement, social development, and overall success in the school environment. Duties and responsibilities Conduct comprehensive speech and language evaluations to determine eligibility for services in accordance with state and federal guidelines Interpret evaluation data and present findings to multidisciplinary evaluation teams Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with communication disorders Provide direct and indirect speech language therapy services based on student needs and IEP goals Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including evaluation reports, progress notes, Medicaid billing (if applicable), and compliance records Monitor student progress and adjust intervention strategies to support measurable growth Collaborate with general and special education teachers to support communication goals within the classroom setting Participate in Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) meetings, IEP meetings, and other required conferences Provide consultation and training to teachers, staff, and parents regarding communication strategies and interventions Ensure compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Mississippi Department of Education regulations, and district policies Assist in the development and implementation of behavior intervention plans when communication needs are a factor Support the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices and systems when appropriate Maintain and manage therapy materials, equipment, and assistive technology Coordinate services with outside agencies, when appropriate, to support student needs Participate in professional development to maintain licensure and stay current with best practices Provide input for eligibility, dismissal, and reevaluation decisions based on data and student progress Serve as a resource for communication development and disorders within the school community Perform other duties as assigned by administration in support of student services Read, understand, and abide by Employee Conduct Policy, GAB, all other district policies, and applicable procedures and protocols as established by LCSD, and the Mississippi Educator Code of Conduct Qualifications Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology, Communication Sciences and Disorders, or a closely related field from an accredited institution Valid licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist issued by the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) Completion of required supervised clinical experience (clinical fellowship), typically equivalent to nine months of full time supervised practice Successful completion of the national Praxis examination in Speech Language Pathology (or other board approved exam) Eligibility for or possession of the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology (CCC SLP) through the American Speech Language Hearing Association (preferred in most districts) Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, reach, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and move up to 35 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
