$70k - $85kBusiness Council for International Understanding (BCIU)
Job Description
\nAbout the Company
\n \nThe Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU) was founded in 1955 through a White House initiative of President Eisenhower. As a neutral, nonpartisan organization, the original mission still carries forward—to support peace and prosperity through international trade and mutual understanding at the highest levels. BCIU is deeply connected and trusted by 150 member companies, including many global multinationals, and maintains unparalleled government and private‑sector relationships worldwide.
\n \nFor 70 years, the organization has shaped the future by convening action‑oriented forums that address some of the world’s most complex challenges, from global health to cybersecurity to agricultural sustainability. Through tailored services and candid dialogues, BCIU enables its partners to deepen economic cooperation and enhance prosperity across global markets.
\n \n \nAbout the Role
\n \nThe Program Officer, Energy will support the development, fundraising, and execution of BCIU's energy programming and strategy. This role will help advance the organization's 2026 energy priorities across clean and alternative energy, hydrogen and carbon innovation, digitalization and modernization, energy security and resilience, sustainable financing, and conventional energy issues including nuclear, oil, and gas.
\n \n \nThe position is ideal for a candidate with experience in international affairs, commercial diplomacy, and energy programming, including familiarity with hydrogen, carbon, nuclear, and traditional energy markets. Experience in carbon and hydrogen is strongly preferred.
\n \n \nResponsibilities
\n \n- \n
- Design, generate, pursue, confirm, and execute programs, roundtables, strategic dialogues, and bilateral meetings across the energy portfolio. \n
- Support implementation of BCIU's Energy Plan and help translate strategic priorities into a pipeline of member-driven, fundable activities. \n
- Identify programming opportunities tied to major policy, diplomatic, and industry moments, including UNGA, COP, IMF-World Bank meetings, and sector conferences. \n
- Develop and maintain relationships with U.S. and foreign government officials, embassies, multilateral institutions, investors, industry associations, and corporate executives. \n
- Engage members proactively to understand their commercial priorities, regional operations, and areas of policy or market interest, and use those conversations to develop programming ideas. \n
- Support and pursue sponsorship outreach for programs, with the expectation of contributing to annual revenue and fundraising targets. \n
- Build and maintain strong subject matter familiarity across energy transition, hydrogen, carbon, nuclear, oil and gas, and related regulatory and commercial developments. \n
- Prepare briefing materials, concept notes, agendas, leadership talking points, outreach lists, and post-event summaries. \n
- Recruit and confirm senior-level participants through direct outreach by email, phone, video call, and in-person networking. \n
- Track all activity in BCIU's CRM system, maintain clean files and outreach lists, and regularly brief colleagues and leadership on leads, follow-up, and program development. \n
- Work closely with regional program officers and other sector leads to identify cross-cutting opportunities and support broader organizational priorities. \n
Qualifications
\n \n- \n
- Bachelor's degree in international relations, public policy, energy policy, political science, economics, environmental studies, or a related field required; Master's preferred. \n
- Must be authorized to work in the United States. \n
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, as needed. \n
- Foreign language skills are a plus. \n
Required Skills
\n \n- \n
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in energy, international relations, public policy, infrastructure, sustainability, commercial diplomacy, or a related field. \n
- Experience supporting or developing programming related to energy transition, hydrogen, carbon management, decarbonization, nuclear, oil and gas, or energy security. \n
- Strong research, writing, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare polished materials for senior audiences. \n
- Experience with stakeholder engagement, fundraising, sponsorship support, and event execution. \n
- Comfort engaging with senior public and private sector stakeholders across multiple regions and time zones. \n
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple workstreams in a fast-paced environment. \n
- Familiarity with CRM systems, preferably Zoho, and strong Microsoft Office skills. \n
Preferred Skills
\n- \n
- Experience in carbon and hydrogen is strongly preferred. \n
Pay range and compensation package
\n \nSalary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. BCIU offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, pension plan, paid time off, and professional development support.
