This role operates on the machine shop floor alongside a small team of experienced machinists, producing precision hollow metal bars to exact diameters for use in medical device manufacturing. You work largely autonomously on a 4x10 schedule, with regular check-ins from supervision to ensure quality and throughput. The position involves operating and setting up various machining equipment, including CNC machines, milling machines, lathes, grinders, and centerless grinding equipment, while using measuring tools and math skills to maintain tight tolerances.

Responsibilities

• Operate CNC machines, milling machines, lathes, grinders, and related equipment to hollow out metal bars to specified diameters for medical device production.
• Work independently on the machine shop floor while collaborating with a team of approximately 10–12 machinists across multiple shifts.
• Set up machines as needed, including tooling, fixtures, and basic program adjustments, to ensure efficient and accurate production runs.
• Use measuring tools and shop math to verify part dimensions and maintain tight tolerances throughout the machining process.
• Perform centerless grinding and other grinding operations when required to achieve precise finishes and dimensions.
• Monitor machine performance, identify issues, and make appropriate adjustments to maintain quality and productivity.
• Follow established work instructions, safety procedures, and quality standards at all times.
• Conduct routine checks and inspections on parts and equipment to ensure consistent output and minimize scrap.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members during regular check-ins regarding production status, quality concerns, and equipment needs.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area in a busy machine shop environment with multiple machines running simultaneously.

Essential Skills

• At least 3 years of hands-on experience operating machining equipment such as CNC machines, milling machines, lathes, grinders, or centerless grinding machines.
• Proficiency with CNC machining processes, including basic operation and adjustment.
• Experience with milling operations, including setup and machining of metal components.
• Familiarity with 5-axis machining or multi-axis equipment operation.
• Ability to operate and perform basic setup on centerless grinding equipment.
• Strong skills in using measuring tools (such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges) to verify part dimensions.
• Solid shop math skills to calculate dimensions, tolerances, and machining parameters.
• Experience working in a machining, grinding, or metal fabrication environment.
• Ability to work independently and manage tasks on a 4x10 schedule.
• Comfort working in a loud machine shop with multiple machines running.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Understanding of tooling requirements and machine setup, including selecting appropriate tools and configuring machines for specific jobs.
• Prior experience with centerless grinding operations is strongly preferred.
• Experience in milling, CNC machining, or grinder operation is beneficial.
• Experience in similar precision manufacturing environments, particularly those supporting medical or high-tolerance components.
• Ability to read and interpret basic technical instructions or machining guidelines.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality parts.

Work Environment

The role is based in a machine shop located on the bottom floor of a converted office building, creating a focused production space within a compact facility. The shop can be loud due to multiple machines running at the same time, and you should be comfortable working in a busy, equipment-intensive environment. The position is on 2nd shift, working Monday through Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m on a 4x10 schedule. You work alongside approximately 10–12 machinists across first and second shifts, using CNC machines, milling machines, lathes, grinders, and centerless grinding equipment, as well as standard measuring tools, in a practical, hands-on manufacturing setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New Boston, NH.

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $32.00/hr.
