We’re seeking a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to work closely with a student, providing crucial interpretive services throughout the school day. This contract-to-hire opportunity places you in an engaging educational environment, where your expertise ensures effective communication and inclusion for a student who is deaf or hard of hearing.
You’ll be filling an immediate need, taking over for an on-site interpreter who is transitioning out of the position. Expect ongoing support from the school as we onboard, along with opportunities to connect with a collaborative staff.
Qualifications:
- Certification or credentials as a Sign Language Interpreter (RID or EIPA preferred).
- Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English.
- Prior experience interpreting within educational or school settings, especially at the high school level.
- Ability to foster an inclusive and positive learning environment.
- Commitment to confidentiality and professional ethics.
- Flexibility and adaptability to respond to student and classroom needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and school activities between staff and the assigned student.
- Clarify and reinforce spoken material to enhance understanding.
- Facilitate communication during extracurricular activities, meetings, and school events as needed.
- Support the student’s participation and engagement with peers and staff.
- Collaborate with educators and special education teams to optimize learning experiences.
