Description: Position Location: Seattle, WA

Summary: Performs routine mechanical work on U.S. Navy shore facilities, waterborne vessels, surface ships and/or submarines. Tasks will be related to inspections, repairs, modernization and/or alterations.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

• Proficient in the use of precision measurement equipment including scales, vernier calipers, micrometers and torque wrenches.
• Experienced with use of torque wrench extensions and multipliers.
• Proficient in the use of portable drill presses.
• Perform disconnects and connections of mechanical joints.
• Removes and installs various equipment using sound engineering practices.
• Overhauls various pumps and valves.
• Ability to troubleshoot and determine faulty equipment, determine cause of malfunction and determine best repair method.
• Hydrostatically tests pumps, valves and piping.
• Have the ability to read and follow technical manuals for various equipment.
• Fills our objective quality evidence (OQE) forms.
• May lead a small team of mechanics.
• Performing duties as Firewatch.
• Assists with cleaning up work area.
• Employees may be required to travel to work to other locations.

Language Ability: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills: Must possess basic computer skills to enter data into different data basis.

Education/Experience: Must have completed a formal related course of study in trade through either a community college, technical or trade school, military training, formal company training program or an apprentice program. Must have 1+ years of verifiable experience as a mechanic in an industrial environment (i.e., shipbuilding, ship repair or nuclear power plants).

Certificates and Licenses: Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain a security badge for all military installations and civilian shipyards as needed.

Equipment: General Hand Tools Torque Wenches Precision Measuring Instruments

Knowledge, Skills and Other Abilities: Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, written technical instructions and manuals. Must possess working knowledge of shipboard operating requirements. and understand material safety data sheets (MDS). Able to follow safety procedures.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is working on a ship. The employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts or working in a confined space. The employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Wage Range: $22.00-$42.00 In determining compensation, various factors will be considered, including but not limited to, educational background; relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, market factors; and geographic location.
